As this segment is heating up with a slew of launches happening currently by most manufacturers. Hyundai has been testing i20 Cross too. It is just those regular cars with a better GC to tackle our pothole filled roads without loosing out on the essence.

I have done a minor comparison of the Fiat Avventura vs Volkswagen Cross Polo vs Toyota Etios Cross vs Ford EcoSport. I haven't gone much in detail here.

Pictures have been taken from the below respective threads:

Thread moved out from the Assembly Line section. Thanks for sharing!

Nice comparison Anurag. Thanks.

I have added legroom and rear seat pictures in the CUV wars thread. All pictures are taken with my height as reference, and covers the 4 CUVs in question.

Please feel free to use it if you feel it adds value here.

Anurag, you've compared the older Cross Polo with the 1.2 TDI engine whereas the facelifted version now comes with the 1.5 TDI engine with the same tune as that of the regular 1.5 TDI.

New steering, dual beam headlamps, new tail lamps etc. have been included in the facelifted variant. Besides, Polo's steering column has always had tilt and telescopic adjustments. Please do edit the snaps and the comparison table.

Thanks for the video. But it covers every thing EXCEPT how both cross overs can perform off road and on gradients. A passing mention is made about the compass and inclinometer but the vehicle was not shown tested on uphill/ down hill / off road. This is the general problem with Indian reviews. We take count of trees and miss the woods.

By the way, even in Merc, the spare wheel opens the way it is done of Fiat cross over.

Adding to this, old Vw touareg had a simlar opening boot. Loved it then.

It's only when the Aventura and the Cross came into the market that people started realizing that the Ecosport is not any SUV of any kind. It is a common fallacy to place the Duster and the Ecosport in the same breath. Whatever I have driven of the two, The Duster is an SUV (less capable) but definitely is. The EcoSport is a hatchback with more power and better ground clearance. It's a dine car, but not an SUV as much of the public believes it to be. :-)

Its Ecosport all the way, at least for me!
While the Cross Polo and Etios Cross are the same as their hatchback twins with an excess of black cladding, the Avventura is the Punto with a spare wheel. True, Fiat have put their heart and soul into the Avventura and it has turned out to be more SUVish than the Polo and Etios, its only in the Ecosport where that you can confidently say that you are in a cross over. The commanding driving position and superior engine choices only add to the fun. The fact that it is loaded with features is the icing on the cake.
The urban SUV could not have been made better.

I had a chance to look at an Avventura standing close by. I must say it has character and surely looks much better compared to how the other crosses have come out. But having said that, I would also like see/read how owners tackle that spare wheel. Though Fiat seems to have given a method to use it, but how much does it impede with day to day operations is the question.

I like the fact that the avventura comes with underbody cladding (I.e. Protection for the engine) and ginormous wheels. Do the others?

I visited VW today and found one Cross Polo at 8.75L on road. Its 2014 November make hence a discount of about 1L. New one costs 9.83 on road Kochi.

Any suggestions?

Is it just me, or do the photos don't do true justice to the look of the front ends?

In my opinion, instead of taking a closeup pic, a better way to represent how it would look to the eyes would be to take the photo from far away but with telephoto. Kind of the way portrait shots are taken, however since this is a car, we need to scale up the distances proportionally. (e.g. the Aventura pic looks close to how the front end actually looks)

On the other hand, Ecosport looks like a true "crossover". The rest are just plain hatchbacks.
