Pal, if I had the money for Swift, I would rather buy a Palio 1.1 (if I need mileage) or Palio 1.6 (for sheer driviing pleasure!)
To each his own!

If you need combination of both driving pleasure and FE, buy Swift

FinneyP, I understood why people love palio so much after driving it. wonderful machine. Iam eagerly waiting for an chance with PALIO 1.6. Unfortunately none of my friends own it. One way out it is to put my hands in some used car show room

Going strictly by your requirements

1. FE with AC - Santro or Wagon-R or Spark would be the best bet here. Swift and Palio should have lesser.
2. Seating comfort - Best would be Getz, followed by Swift and Palio. Or even Indica Xeta. Santro has good comfy seats, but the suspension leaves a lot to desire.
3. AC - Palio/Getz have great ACs. So did Matiz (dunno abt Spark). Santro/Swift also have decent ACs.

Overall, Santro would be a great choice for you, unless you want a better ride/seating confort, where Getz scores, or better performance, where Swift scores.

Also look at Palio 1.6, if you are not particular about FE and ride quality, and can bear with A/X/X issues.

But if you want a really-really VFM deal, try the Indica Xeta 1.2 with CNG

For ONLY City rides. The Chevy Spark.

For Higway and City rides. The Fiat Palio Stile (1.6 if you really want performance or the 1.1 if you want FE figures)

Palio 1.6 wil give you 9-13kmpl in city depending on your driving style.
14-15kmpl on highway
it is a 1.6 ltr engine, so thats good enough!!

oops!! you only wanted FE for Stile 1.1

but do take a test drive of 1.6 Stile, you won't be disappointed

I second everyone for 1.6 ,if you are not worried about your FE.

But u decide on your requirement. when it comes to the build, look, space nothing like a palio. why dont you go test drive palio stile 1.1.. though people say its lil slugish, but go feel it for yourself. I was driving a 800 but i am much much hapier with slx 1.1 performance. U get a very good FE too.The Majority who uses 1.1 gets 14+ with a\c. Moreover its VFM car. For 4 laks u get a fiat fully loaded.
Recently the CEO Rajiv kapoor has come out with better plans for A.s.s. The spare cost is also much lesser than before.

All the best,

I have a Palio 1.6 Petrol and the fuel economy in the city Mumbai with bumper to bumper is around 10kmpl. On highway it is between 14 to 16 kmpl. Got 16kmpl on Mumbai Pune run.
I would suggest if FE is a very big consideration, you can try the Palio Stile Deisel (same engine as on SWIFT). You get the build quality + Fuel Economy + Cheaper Fuel.
