BMW has launched the 2 Series Gran Coupe in India. The car is available in two variants Sport Line and M Sport priced at Rs. 39.30 lakh and Rs. 41.40 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively.



The 2 Series Gran Coupe is a four-door sedan based on the 2 Series Coupe. The car has a sloping roofline and pillar-less doors, similar to the larger 6 Series Gran Coupe. It features a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a touchscreen infotainment head-unit and comes with features such as 2-zone automatic climate control, cruise control with braking function, automatic headlights, rain sensing wipers and panoramic sunroof to name a few.



The M Sport variant gets a sporty bodykit and 18-inch M light alloy wheels. On the inside, the car comes with M leather steering wheel, leather-wrapped gearshift lever with M badge, 205 W 10-speaker audio system, gesture control and wireless charging.



Powering the 2 Series Gran Coupe will be a 2.0-litre diesel engine that produces 187 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 400 Nm @ 1,750-2,500 rpm. The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, which drives the front wheels. The car comes with gearshift paddles, launch control and has three driving modes - ECOPRO, Comfort and Sport.

It is an absolute no-brainer to pick up the M-Sport variant! Very little price difference between the Sport-line and M-Sport

Isn't the whole point of a Gran Coupe the style quotient it brings to the table? I know beauty lies in the eye of the beholder, but this really isn't that aesthetically appealing IMO, and I struggle a bit to see its rationale at that price. Sure, it'll have its buyers for those that must have a BMW, but the 3 series is not far off price wise.

I must admit I'm struggling to warm up to the 2 series Gran Coupe because of its looks and the way its FWD. Slowly but surely, BMW is chipping away at its soul and selling it off bit by bit. Grille and bear it, I guess.

Or it's a brainer to not pick this at all(?)
It's overpriced, it's a front wheel drive and I find the styling to be awkward. Not to forget the cramped leg space for people at the rear.

The 2 Series GC seems to be a good product especially with that fantastic diesel engine (which is thankfully not detuned) up front & a great addition to the BMW India line up. BUT that launch price is very disheartening. IMO the start price should have been well under 35L mark.

Phew, never thought I'd be able to say it but the 2 Gran Coupe makes my 330i Sport look VFM.

At these prices of-course no one will buy one but once discounts come in it's naturally the M-Sport one would lean towards. We may see a 20i variant later on which may decrease the price a little.

Makes the 3 series look value for money.

With upcoming price increase on 1st Nov, that should make 3 series expensive.

Else both X1 diesel and 2GC are currently over priced.

Yup that's the best part. BMW 2L diesel unit outputs same power across X1, 2GC till 520d & X3 20d.

Bmw would face a hard time once the new CLA comes in, the new baby Mercedes is a looker and the interiors are so futuristic.
I can not warm up to the looks of this car, might as well pick up a 330i sport, you get a proper rwd sedan and way better looks than this car.
Sort of happy that bmw India have given some good color options on this model, the paint options on 3 are pretty boring.

Watched a couple of reviews.

Review 1: Expected price Ex showroom 32 - 37 Lakhs.
Review 2: Expected On Road Mumbai 37 - 42 Lakh.



Overpriced by at least 20%. But it will still sell to uninformed buyers, who will pay through their noses to get exclusivity, coupe like styling, frameless doors, large sunroof, latest infotainment etc. And after that class of buyers runs out, the usual discounts will have to roll in to create a considerable gap between the 2 & the 3 series.

Hate to say this but the rear of the 2GC looks like a Honda Amaze and Maruti Dzire went to Louis Vuitton!

By March 2021, this will be a decent buy with the discounts!

And why will someone plonk that kind of dough for a FWD Beemer...the next door pricing of the 3 series spoils the raison d'etre for the 2GC.
It's pricing really makes the 3 appear as a sweet sweet deal!!
