Nope. I had asked them to take the car on Sunday (17th June). Part did arrive few days back (immediately after this thread went live). But I have no idea what part it is. Anyhow, I have asked them to replace the entire trim and deliver it in stock condition. I shall keep the thread updated.

Thanks for the link. Hyundai India form was quick enough and have had good responses in the past. Dealers would generally reply soon as we need to give the dealer details as well. This being Kerala's number 1 Hyundai dealer, they will go to any extent to find a solution. Pity that it's just a temporary fix and not a long term solution.

Update:

Like expected and like how they have done for the last 3 years - They have completely forgotten/avoided my complaint. The service manager had promised that they would take the car on Sunday. But no response from them (I haven't called or approached them). Their attitude had changed soon after this thread went live. Anyhow, I have dropped a mail to Hyundai Korea and India about this and let's see what will happen.

Shall keep the thread updated.

@Naveen - In my case, they came straight to my home and brought a complaint resolution form. They also committed to order the wiring harness as a warranty part (costs almost Rs.20,000). (After I signed the form, I told them I will let them know when to order the harness).

I decided finally not to change it since a friend of mine said not to take the risk by unplugging the various plugs on the existing harness since pins may break and one will never be able to diagnose if any problems come up later.

If you do not get any response, keep filing your complaint on the Korea link. I'm sure that they will respond eventually.
BTW - I service my Eon at Popular Hyundai Kottayam and find their mechanics very average. I have to watch the service being done to ensure nothing wrong is done to the car.

@Naveen - one more channel to air your grievance is Hyundai India's Facebook page. I have also done that in the past and Hyundai India CC respond quite fast.

Update:

1. Mail sent to Hyundai Korea/India - June 20th, 8am.
2. Receive two mails from them confirming that they have escalated the complaint - June 20th, 11am.
3. My wife gets a call from the service center and the dude asks "Maam, didn't you say that you would bring the vehicle on Sunday"? (more details of the conversation below) - June 20th, 2pm.

What a coincidence, right?

They had 3 whole days to call and she gets the call only today. Like we don't know what made him call TODAY. He tried his best to push the blame towards us saying "Maam, you said that you would bring the vehicle on Sunday. That's why we didn't call". Both of us had said numerous times that we won't bring the vehicle there since this repeated mistakes needs to be stopped. Again, he tried to push it to a weekday to which my wife disagreed since she needs the car 6 days a week (had already mentioned this countless times as well and moreover the service center works on Sunday). He was like "Where do you work, when do you leave for work, when do you get back home, where's your house etc etc".

Anyhow, he's agreed to take the car on Sunday. Let's see what happens. My experience will reach (shared) everywhere online. Have had enough!

Update:

June 22nd - Receive a mail from the service manager asking to confirm the vehicle availability. I reply stating that the vehicle can be picked up from my house on Sun.

June 24th - He calls up my wife and ask for the confirmation for the pickup date. Replies stating that the car can be picked up on Sunday.

June 25th - Another dude shows up to pickup the car.
Dude - Sir, We shall replace the cowl.
Me - What about the clutch and the reverse gear issue?
Dude - Puzzled? We shall adjust the clutch play.
Me - Were you not informed on the issues that I had mentioned numerous times over phone, mails etc?
Dude - Yes, yes (I knew he had no clue on the clutch/gear issue). He was sent just to replace the cowl.

June 25th - He returns the car by 12pm. He confirmed that all issues have been rectified and then leaves.

1) Wiper washer is working again but the force isn't all that great. Guess it's a faulty hose that needs to be replaced. Anyhow, it's atleast working now.
2) As for the clutch, they have adjusted the play. Need to test the reverse gear for few days and see if it's a temporary fix.

I expected a follow up call to check whether the issues have been rectified from the service manager/HASS but nothing till now (even when I had escalated this issue).

Clearly shows these guys are mad since this issue went public (had mentioned their change in attitude earlier). Anyhow, it's goodbye Popular Hyundai for me and my wife will think twice before going there.

OT - My friend called up sometime last week asking my opinion on the Creta AT (almost finalized it. Waiting for the AT TD). I did recommend the car but warned him of the after sales service and showed him this thread. He is now having second thoughts. I am not making this up .

Thing is I would say that is true of every service center out there. I have even had bad experiences at certain Maruti service centers as well as good experiences at Maruti service centers. I have had bad experiences with KTM service centers and good experiences with a couple of them. AFAIK the Creta itself is a reliable car if the owner doesn't mind going a little out of his way to give it to the best service center in town, then the ownership experience is bound to be alright. Otherwise if the owner is so stubborn that he will only give it to a service center that clearly offers sub-par service, then I would say that it is best to uber everywhere While it is true that companies should ensure consistency in service and ownership experience across the board, at the end of the day we need to be the most careful of our investments. No third party can be expected to value our investments as much as we ourselves ought to.

True. All service centers are not perfect. But from my experience, once you report/leave a bad feedback these guys will improve or atleast be cautious when you go there the next time. In my case:
Maruti - Reported once. After that my experience was good.
Ford - Reported once. After that my experience was good.
Toyota - Best experience.
Hyundai - Reported multiple times. No change in 3 years.

This is why I decided to start this thread - repeated occurrences. Some of these are basic things to be followed by these companies.

Update - Reverse gear problem

Wife tested out the car for few days and confirmed that the problem is still there (got even worse as per her). I checked the car at home and the problem occurred atleast 60% of the time I tested the reverse gear.

Shall wait for couple of days before I escalate the issue again. When they force us to take extended warranty, I shall demand the same - replace the required part under warranty instead of some jugaad fix.

Shall update the thread in the 2-3 days.

Naveen, sad to hear about your experiences with Popular Hyundai but unfortunately I am not surprised at all by their lackluster attitude. My mom owned a Hyundai i10 for a few years and used to get it serviced by Popular Hyundai since they used to pick up and drop the car at her hospital. Being a doctor she didnt have the time to go and give it at different service centres but needed the convenience the Popular offered. But man oh man, each service was a major sham with them cramming in every single unnecessary extra through the typical Hyundai service advisor fear mongering routine.


Finally my mom got fed up with dealing with them and made them deal with me over the phone (while I was sitting in Bangalore!) for each service and I had to patiently knock off each unnecessary service add on to bring the service price down to what it actually should be. The whole experience over a few years dramatically soured our impression of Hyundai ownership and when it came time to upgrade, we said no more Hyundai and switched camps to Nexa.


Off topic, but its a different matter that Nexa in Cochin is hardly a premium service.
1. They goofed up on the variant pricing while booking and gave us wrong information on the final price.
2. Our car had a puncture and we asked them to fix it during the service. They returned the car after service saying they dont have the facility to fix punctures!!!!! Wrote a strong email to Maruti and long story short, the reason Nexa Cochin customers can get their car tire woes addressed today is because of me
3. They returned the car from one of the services without having cleaned it properly. Even the Popular driver agreed to it.
4. Took 11 hours for a pick up and drop of a simple service.

You should have tried MGF Hyundai, Padivattom. The 2 cars in my family is being serviced by them for the last 8 years. Excellent service support till now.

Had a worst experience from Popular Hyundai, Vyttila, so never went back.

True. You could easily make up from his voice after this thread went live (pathetic attitude). If they were concerned, they would have called up asking our feedback after the work. But got a call from their insurance team asking me to renew the insurance. I asked them not to ever call me .

Our i10's first service (car wash, checking the fluid levels) took almost 10 hours .

No more Popular Hyundai for me. Looks like MGF is a bit far. I am planning to try VTJ next time else MGF. Anyhow, I shall show this thread to the SA next time, hehe.

I think you should vote with your wallet and take your cars elsewhere.

Popular Hyundai in Vyttila is horrible.

I remember taking my Getz Crdi there for a 30k service. The SA sat in the car and the conversation went like

SA-: Suspension needs to be overhauled
Me -: Why?
SA -: Recommended by Hyundai at 30k.
Me -: Where is it in the manual?
SA -: They dont put in manual, but tell us so that customer car is in good condition.
Me -: Not required. Only oil and filter change and whatever is in the manual for 30k service.

He also tried pushing various other stuff for protection against this and that. I've always felt the same thing about Hyundai - good cars, bad service.

How good is Popular Muvattupuzha? There are no other service centers nearby Muvattupuzha, hence its the only option, unless I take the car to Ernakulam.

I would like to give my car for annual service, there is also some Monsoon camp going on with discount on labour.

My relative is taking to Skiltech (MGF Hyundai), near to Kadathy Muvattupuzha. There is a service centre for Popular in Kothamangalam also.

Go to MGF Hyundai.


Also all Monsoon camps are just hogwash and not of much use to the customer.
