Car loan paid off : some questions

Final instalment of my ICICI bank car loan is supposed to be debited
through ECS early March (yeah, I did go for ICICI bank loan, and ECS
too, but that was before I knew any better (through team-bhp, of course)).

ICICI bank says the NOC will come from Mumbai by the 18th (I really
hope it does), and it will be mailed to my address after that. I could
pick it up in person by going to a branch, but they'll charge me 100 bucks
for the privilege !

I've learnt that, after I get the NOC, I'd have to go to the RTO to get my
RC book corrected. How long does that process take ?

The problem is, I'm moving to WB from BLR the last week of March,
and this doesn't leave me with much time. The question is, since (as I
understand) I'll have to re-register my car in WB anyway, could I just do
the correcting of the RC book there, or must I do that in BLR itself
before I leave ? Also, if the NOC arrives too late, could I get it sent by
ICICI to my WB address, or would that create complications ?

Looking forward to inputs from experienced members. Thanks a lot.

No as i have earlier collected my noc's by going directly to the branch i was not charged 100rs please re confirm.

It actually takes 1or 2 days max, Just carry your original photo identity & signature proof for safer side when you go. in which RTO is your car registered ? if you know some one in RTO things would be rather easy.

No removal of hypothication cannot be done in WB, since it's a bangalore registered car you must do the need full before you leave bangalore. to makes things easier please go to nearest icici bank and get the noc ( instead of waiting for the courier) if you want the noc to be sent to your WB address you should have called up icici customer care 41131877 and updated your residential address before your last emi clearence. i think it's late now.

Thanks for the help, praJEEP.

My regn. is for KA04, don't know which RTO that is (Yeshvantpur ?).
Don't know anyone in the RTOs either, -- shall have to try myself.
Sounds like I can only hope that the noc will arrive in time !

KA 04 is Bangalore North RTO in Yeshwantpur. Better get the RC book fixed before moving to WB.

Also remember to get it changed in the Insurance. that is relatively straightforward and will be over across the counter, once you show the RC book endorsement.
I got the work done through AASI. i recommend people to take AASI (WIAA or whatever) membership. it is fun to get the work done by paying only the specified fees and not interacting with RTO folks

@rajesh1868 well updation of Insurance is within the topic (it needs to be done after loan is closed)

AASI is Automobile Association of South India. WIAA is Western India Automobile Association. There should be similar associations for North and East too. With their membership, you can get services such as Hypothecation removal from RC book, change DL to reflect your new address, Re-Registration/NOC in case of inter-state transfers etc. they help you with towing your vehicle to nearest garage in any corner of India should you need it. they even used to provide drivers before on daily basis.
I don't want to market them anymore, you can check their website

This is very interesting information. Does anyone know the name/
website of the east & north India associations ? I guess it's too close
for me to register with the AASI and get the benefit. However, I'd like to
join the eastern India association at some point after my move.
Thanks a bunch for all the info.

The kolkata equivalent of AASI will be AAEI. Their main office is in Ballygunj Circular Road IIRC. They also have another office somewhere in Salt Lake if I am not mistaken.

Smog test

If I remember correctly, before you visit RTO - you need to complete the Smog test. The report is valid for 90 days, so you can use the same at WB to re-register

What is smog test ? Is it different from the emission test (for which the
certificate is valid for 6 months) ?

ICICI bank at it again !

Well, I called up ICICI bank to check the progress on closing my account
and sending the noc etc. I was given a different version this time!
Apparently I can't go in person to a Bangalore branch to pick up the noc,
-- it will be mailed directly from Mumbai to my address (praJEEP, you did
pick it up from a Bangalore branch, right ?). I must wait for it to come to
me! Not only that, the security cheques (for the full loan amount!) will be
mailed separately to my address, and could take upto 45 days! And I'll
be gone from this address in 15 days ! They'll not take request to send it
to a different address. At this point I don't know what to do but pray, and
swear I'll never approach ICICI bank again for anything ever !
