When you say its not a fast sedan, I presume you are talking about TDCI? And poor on highways from which angle, FE, stability, ride quality?

No more - if you get an 110 bhp/ 25 kgm torque offering in a much bigger car for just a lakh more, why would anyone think about a 68 bhp cramped car for just a smooth engine ....
Well we are discussing that there is no complete diesel in this segment except for the innova. Petrol has lot of options like optra/city/Fiesta etc.,
While we are at it, y leave out the Fiat 138D or the viceroy (remember that_a rebadged 118NE diesel) :)

Goldie, the ex-showroom price of the Elantra CRDI is 10,23,549, what are we talking about a lakh morelol: ???? You are comparing a Fiesta TDCI price with a BASE Petrol Elantra price or where is "just a lakh more" coming from my friend?

Elantra CRDI is a much better all round package than the Accent CRDI (I have the Accent - so first hand experience) .... and way over any other diesel car this side of the Mercs.
The engine, ride, suspension, balance, NVH characterestics, are all spot on - not to mention trim levels. One has to be a real good enthusiast with ability to take the car over 130-140kmph before one can start picking holes inthe package. (Accent CRDI is too nose heavy and at speeds over hundred does not feel too well planted - esp while braking).
Slap a Petes box in there - with a pair of 205 or 215's and this baby will show her rear to most thing on wheels on the road..
I think if they ever drop prices - they will surely have a winner!!

In delhi Elantra crdi fully loaded(Cd changer etc.,) can be had for 9.50L. We were speculating if a stripped version of elantra CRDI is introduced with a 8L price tag it will be a segment killer. Currently Hyundai is not doing that and an elantra CRDI is available only in fully loaded trim, ie
Airbags, Traction control, climate control, ABS, Onboard computer, 6 Cd changer, alloys.

Yes, but lets compare apples to apples if we compare with the Fiesta TDCI which is still 2 lacs cheaper on-road compared to the 9.5 you are stating. Its like comparing the Petrol Fiesta SXI with the Corollalol:
:OT While everyone goes ga-ga over BHP figures of elantra (127 and 110 respectively for Petrol/Diesel), they don't always convey right picture. Last November, I accidently happened to got into race with an Elantra on twisty highway and he found it too tough to catch up. (I am pretty much sedate driver and drive within my limits, not cars).

Nobody is comparing it with the Corolla, and corolla's dont come for 6.99 L, but the Elantra GT does ...

Thats true, but what you are pointing out is its handling and cornering ability.

No. There were straights and twisty was not as in ghats. Has anyone driven elantra? Does it have tendency to slide and push its rear? I noticed it when he braked hard to avoid rough patch on road.
