1) Sorry for going OT, but SX4 ( also sold as Fiat Sedeci )is not jointly developed by Fiat and Suzuki. SX4 is based on extended Swift platform. Reason why Suzuki SX4 is sold in more countries than Fiat Sedeci ? Simple, its a Suzuki product which Fiat thought could be good enough for Fiat logo. What Suzuki got was diesel engines and/or tech in return.

In US, Asia SX4 is not sold as Fiat product, but as Suzuki product.
SX4 with a Fiat logo is mainly for Europe only.

The Fait-Suzuki relation which started via GM runs quite deep. Fiat Panda 4X4 has a Suzuki 4X4 system, both of them had good deals for diesel units and Sedici and further ahead Suzuki is planning to take support of Fiat for Diesel units.

This topic is very widely discuassed whether SX4 is jointly developed or Suzuki product. Since the begenning its clear that SX4 is on extended Swift platform and not Fiat backed/jointly developed.
I would place a humble request for mod team to provide in their view on this topic.
Sorry again for this OT post.

Answer: The part that Fiat had in the "teaming-up" was ONLY in how the Fiat engine would fit under the hood of the Suzuki SX4 and all relevant parts needed for integration in to the Suzuki SX4 (Streched Suzuki Swift Platform).

And the same is true when the Manual transmition was selected. Here again, in the Sedici, they were to use a Fiat 6-speed manual tranny rather than anything from Suzuki.

This facilitated mapping and full integration into the Sedici (re-badged SX4) in conjunction with the Fiat Diesel engine.

As far as the styling of the SX4, as I said before, this was handled by ItalDesign, Just as the Suzuki Aerio which was also a 100% Suzuki engineered was also styled by an Italian design firm.

Remember when the Geo Metro was a a "co-venture" between GM and Suzuki? Exaclty what did GM design for the Metro? >NADA<, it was the Suzuki Swift re-badged and sold under GM brand or "GEO" so that GM could take advantage of the gas mileage in order to meet the federally mandated gas standards, which before they "teamed-up" with Suzuki, they weren't able to pass. The only parts on the Metro which has anything to do with GM were the recessed headlights that were on the lesser models (the upper model of the Metro known as the LSi kept the better flush Suzuki Swift headlights) and some of the nuts, bolts, and fittings.

So as far as "co-venture" and "teaming-up", this has been going on for years with many Suzuki cars that were later re-badged, but in almost every case, it was merely a Suzuki with another brand name slapped on it, and always for stragtegic economic interests
>THIS< is why Suzuki allows Fiat to re-badge the Suzuki SX4 and sell them under their own brand.
(ie, meeting gas mileage standards) or in the case of the "Fiat" Sedici, it serves Suzuki very well to let Fiat use the Streched Swift Platform in exchange for Suzuki being able to use, license, build, the Fiat Diesel Engines for use in Suzuki vehicles in Europe, India, and Asia.

The same thing goes for the new Suzuki Splash. This is a "co-venture" between Suzuki and Opel. Ok...... would any of you venture to guess what platform the Opel Aguila is based on? Is it an Opel platform? Anyone want to guess how many Opel parts are on the Splash???? After all, it >IS< a co-venture between Suzuki and Opel, therefore Opel MUST have helped build and develope it right? Specially if Wikipedia says so.

Ok here comes the shocking news.......... OPEL had NOTHING to do with the development or engineering of the Splash! The Splash is based on a "Shortened Swift Platform" and was designed specifically for the European market. Hmmmmmmm sound familiar???
Both of the petrol engines available for the Splash are Suzuki designed and built. And the Diesel engine available for the Splash....... oh it's a ..... >FIAT< common rail DPF design, built by Suzuki! Hmmmmmm I wonder how Suzuki got the license to build Fiat engines and put them in Suzuki cars...... hmmmmmmmm....
PS : I am deliberately not removing any spelling mistakes, etc. as I intend to keep the things original. For reference I have posted the link of source.

Hope that this actually helps all.

regards,

The new DZire CS launch will be only after the ERTIGA launch, so it will be in the mid 2012, IMO.

And rumours are that both the current DZire and new CS version will co-exist until 2013, when a new bigger DZire (which is also based on the new Swift) developed by international Suzuki will eventually replace the current DZire.

Re: New compact Swift DZire on test

According to a very reliable source, the new compact Dzire will be priced 20k lesser than the current Dzire. Might get more details about the car by tomorrow evening. Also, the 7 seater MPV is still some time away, and will be launched only after a new small car.

Just 20K less with very less boot space when compared to current Dzire? I don't think there will be many takers for this.

When compared to current Swift, It is kind of Current Swift + little more boot space but around 60K for the extra boot space. Someone posted here that the boot space might be around 300ltrs which is little more than Figo.

If they discontinue the current Dzire then in this segment there will be no Maruti product with good boot space. This will help the sales of Etios/Manza.

IMO, a difference of 40K-50K will make some sense.

Source: Business Line : Companies News : Maruti's new Swift sedan variant likely to debut in Feb

"Maruti Suzuki's popular brand, Swift, may soon be expanded to three body styles from two..."

"The Dzire sales are still strong enough to not pull it out of the market. Adding a third body style in the Swift range will mean incremental volumes without much higher investments, especially when auto sales are slowing and companies are looking to delay capacity expansion..."

IMO, its a good decision to continue with the current Dzire along with the new one. down the lane they may come up with a face lift version of the current Dzire.

Any idea about the engine capacity of the new Dzire?

Yes, heard earlier that Suzuki is developing a world sedan based on the current gen new Swift. This new sedan may eventually replace current DZire. I expect that new DZire with a new 1.4L K-series Petrol engine (from Ertiga), and 1.3L 90BHP Diesel (from SX4).

No doubt, it will come with the same engines used in new Swift - 1.2L K-series Petrol and 1.3L Multijet Diesel, as it is designed to get the benefits of the lower tax for cars less than 4m in length, and 1.2L / 1.5L engine capacity for Petrol, and Diesel engines respectively.

Re: New compact Swift DZire on test

Once the Swift 3.99 happens (what a pathetic name !! ), the demand for current dzire will definitely go down thanks to the price differential. Only positive point with the current dzire would be the larger boot. Just like how Indigo standard was discontinued after Indigo CS gained momentum.

Quite agree. Can't see too many people opting for the full-length Dzire, when the compact version has a everything of the Swift + a bigger boot space to the Swift hatch.

I too feel that the Swift 3.99 would seem an odd name and it appears unnecessary to include the sub-4 metre specs to the name. Makes more sense to call it Swift SS (Short/Small sedan).

How I wish other hatches (such as the i10, Eon, etc.) also had compact sedan variants on offer.

Why is it called the Swift 3.99? Will it start from 3.99 lacs or something? Or maybe it's 3.99 metres long thats why?

Re: New compact Swift DZire on test

Dont ppl buy the desire because its a big car as opposed to a Hatch!!
Do people really want a slightly larger boot and not a full on Sedan?? This is what i feel needs to be discussed ! The Dzire at 3.99 m may loose out to the Sunny and Etios !

Re: New compact Swift DZire on test

Swift 3.99? Does it stand for its length? I doubt that it will be the final name. They might think of something better - though Maruti is fully capable of bizarre names like "Ertiga"!!
