Maruti to stop Zen Production

I am of the opinion that the Zen became outdated a few months after the launch of the Santro and Matiz. Though I always wanted the Zen to drive into the sunset gracefully, now that it's happened it saddens me. The Zen was one car I always desired but never managed to have the privelige to own it. However, Indian Express sources claim that the Zen brand will live on and MUL may launch a all new model in the next few months with the Zen name. Anyone has any idea of this secret all new Zen?

I guess Maruti knows whats best for their business, probably want potential zen buyers to look at the swift (still lots of people who want to stick to good old maruti), I know someone with three zens in the family!!
The zen probably has one of the largest fan clubs amongst all the cars in the country, simply because it was way ahead of its time when it was launched and it was one of the few cars that was desirable as well as affordable (somewhat). IMHO the old zen looked way better than the Santro and Matiz, though they may have been more technically advanced.(Am not saying this because i own one, I bought one coz i believe this)Have owned one for the last year (a second hand 2001 model) and have loved every minute of driving!
Anyway, I'm sure the Swift will be the 'zen' for the next generation! (now i sound old, i'm only 21, ok 22 tomorrow).

finally the time comes when the 2 decade old marutis are starting to bid goodbye.

I dont want to see Zen,800,esteem and baleno doing another Ambassador stuff.

deccan chronicle says new zen will be available in 2 months!
another cosmetic change to zen? hmm it wont help if they do a slappy work as they did in 2004.

sad news... i loved the old zen mainly for its jellybean design....can u imagine in any other country a 93 debut model still selling....and the shape doesnt look aged even now?? The baleno may look aged but zen still feels hot for me especially the older one and the interiors are quite good too...

any plans for maruti to launch the suzuki ignis as the new zen???

Today's HT talks about a "new" Zen being launched in a few months time & also that production levels of the current model are being brought down - they are not saying stopped altogether.

Do you think they will launch the new model cod named YY4(not too sure) internally under the zen brand name???
The YY4 is supposed to be something like the ford fusion. I read it in last years autocar

FINALLY!!!!

The Zen was an icon in its day but was too long in the tooth. And te original style is still the best- had one for a couple of years, and the car was a blast to drive.

still, all good things must come to an end.

AFAIK, Maruti is discontinuing the car but retaining the brand. So, let's expect a "Real" all new Zen from Maruti in near future.
