Volkswagen UP! spied for the first time in India, most probably headed in for display at the Auto Expo 2012.

Nice scoop! However, I don't think VW will launch a 2-door version in India, whenever it happens. Also, I am wondering who was it first, Honda or VW to have this rear design? The integrated rear glass-hatch design is almost a rip-off in either the Brio or the Up.

A base version with rear wiper is impressive, but i guess VW will give you that only on the top end. This is a euro spec car, when it arrives, it will have 4 doors, body coloured handles and ORVMs , and an optional pack for airbags, alloys, rear wash wipe and every other convenience.The top end will come with "premium" beige interiors .
The interiors are quite good, from the pictures I have seen on the net, but I doubt they will make it here. The story will be the same as the Figo launch, the artist impression had nothing to do with the actual interiors.

It doest look anything like Brio from behind,save for the glass-door hatch,although handsome car.I am sure VW will price the base at 3.99 lakhs

It's not launched and it's already on a flat-bed . Flat-bed tow operators will love this car!

That's what the Up! should look like once it's officially on Indian shores. This, though, is the 3-door Up! and we should expect the 5-door Up! For the Indian Market. As we know, 3-doors don't bring volumes, hence not feasible for the Indian Market.

Also, expect it to be a quite a bit cheaper than Euro 7995 (approx. 6 lakhs) when it's on sale in India. You could attribute the drop in costs to localization of the Up!

I am sure the one that eventually makes it to India will be the 4-door version. Unless they decide to introduce this one alongside as a niche-lifestyle option, in the lines of the Zen Carbon'n'Steel.

The 5-door variant will be the Indian spec UP!, most definitely. This one is either a test mule or has dropped in to pay a visit to the Auto Expo 2012.

And yes, increased localization should keep it in a range of around 3.5L - 5L, thereby positioning it right below the Polo.

hey guys,

This is my first post here in Team-BHP, saw the acceptance two minutes back

Just went through the VW UK website, the car in the picture is the entry level " Take up! " model which is the only model available exclusively as a 3 door in the UK, do you think i'd be pinning my hopes up too high in expecting a 3 door variant in India ?

I mean, they'd want to showcase the best of what we will get right ?

This isn't going to be the only Up! on display, me thinks. There will be several other variants. Judging by the hub-caps and the black ORVM-covers and door-handles, this could be the base-/mid-level-variant of the 3-door Up!, I suppose? This one won't be sold in India, in all probability. Or do you think VW will surprise us with the launch of the 3-door? Why else would there be a base-variant of the 3-door Up! in India?

Whoever spotted this, must have just missed spotting a few other flat-beds carrying the other variants of the same car.

We are likely to get the VW-Up, Skoda-Up, Seat-Up. Just like so many models have the same multijet engine, we are going to see a whole lot of the same car with different make-Ups.

'UP' version of the Skoda is Citigo. No there is no vesion of UP in Seat!

I find myself taking a liking to this car.

On checking out images for UP on Google, I found 2 types of 5-door variant of this car.

One is a UP/Lupo that is a regular 5-door hatch :



The other is UP Space which has a diff. door arrangement :



Wonder which of the 3 will come to India.
