Re: Colour Popularity Report: Which car colours sell the most in India?

White and Silver being at the top isn't so surprising. Ease of maintenance against dust, heat being the primary reasons. When we bought our car, we were the only one who took delivery of a blue. Couple more guys who bought cars around the same time bought a silver.

I can attest to both the factors, car gathers dust under a day even after a Sunday morning cleaning. A/C cooling post sun film ban days were truly horrible.

Its actually the attention it grabs that most are worried about. Add to that, darker shades also absorb more heat, not quite the thing to do in a tropical country.

Re: Colour Popularity Report: Which car colours sell the most in India?

Natural = beige? So glad it's on the decline. A dull lackluster color that screams my car is boring. I'll pick any one of the million shades of grey/silver over beige any day.

I could be mistaken but out of top few Indian cars except Altroz no other model has beige (sort of) color as an option.
I remember Wagon R used to come in beige but now it's gone from whole MS line up.

Not only beige, but grey, silver, black and even white are boring colors (or colorless?), IMO. If your car should look fresh, it should be red or blue.

Nardo grey a color that came on some Audi and BMW models is one of my favorite of those shades in general. While some cars look great in white, especially if they are low slung and long sedans. Mazda Miata in white looks fantastic too which is kinda exception because the car is so tiny.
But of course red and blue (and green shade that Audi has for tron models) are true standouts. The wine red color on Creta is such a beautiful color.

International:

The colors of new cars in 2023 in Europe will be more elegant and innovative.

Colors that you did not imagine in any way in certain models, are already being imposed more and more. BASF is one of the great manufacturers and specialists in colors for the automotive industry, among others, and one of those that has already announced what the colors that will govern in 2023 will be. In Europe, the bet focuses on a high chromaticity with new pigments creating more intense tones, taking center stage different shades of green, blues and yellows that will reign in the 2023 catalogs.
Quote:
In Germany, the best-selling colors during the still unfinished 2022, have been white, black, gray or silver, being the third and fourth those that have dressed more cars and have risen to the top of the sales figures, second black and third white, which has lost popularity in the German territory. In Spain, white has been a clear dominator, and has been followed by black, gray, blue and red.

Re: Colour Popularity Report: Which car colours sell the most in India?

Yesterday, I happened to spot 3 Dark editions (my Altroz Dark + 2 Dark Nexons) plus a black Kia Carens in my building's parking.

This shows how people's interest have gone up in black color, especially in last 2 years.
I think full credit goes to Tata Motors for making it happen.

I remember 4-5 years ago hardly 5-10 % of cars in mass market segment had a option of black color on offer.

I know many people find that black color is hard to maintain but after owning one I feel this color is as easy / difficult to maintain as other darker shades in the market.

Re: Colour Popularity Report: Which car colours sell the most in India?

Personally have never been a fan of these de"fault" colours - black, white, silver, grey etc. If you're running a business / taxi they're fine, but for personal cars I just don't get it.

As a kid you always wanted bright splashy colours and as an adult I truly believe its cheaper to mass produce the white and black paint and simplifies the supply chain and hence the Global-Auto-Industrial complex has forced these colours down our throats and attuned the populace's mindset into "loving" the white/black/blands.

And of course you're gonna have huge number of cars in white/blands if the first thing the salesman tells you is "sir, white delivery in 2 days, red 2 months, blue 6 months... "

Re: Colour Popularity Report: Which car colours sell the most in India?

Popular colours of cars as seen in 2022.

While white and black still win, chromatic colors gain market share around the globe.

- White, black, gray, and silver still dominate for non-commercial vehicles.
- Yellow, orange, green, and violet all gain market share.

EMEA: More colorful, even though its two biggest colors (white and black) also increased.

Quote:
Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) showed gains for its two most popular colors – white and black – and losses in market share for gray and silver. At the same time, the region got much more colorful.

Blue still has a commanding lead among chromatic colors in EMEA, but both blue and red lost market share. Orange started appearing in car buyers’ preferences, and yellow, brown, and green all picked up a few percentage points.

North America: More chromatic colors like violet show up:

Quote:
North American car buyers have fewer choices for chromatic colors, but that doesn’t mean they’re choosing fewer chromatic cars, trucks, or SUVs. Blue and red are still dominant, but the region is more colorful than before as green, yellow, violet, and beige show up more often.

Blue is still on top, and the gap between blue and red is widening as blue continues its dominance. Achromatic colors like black, gray, and silver lost some market share, especially in larger vehicles. That allowed earthy tones like beige, brown, and green to increase, and violet to gain market share as car buyers’ tastes change.
Asia Pacific: Increase of gray shades boosted the share of achromatic colors:

Colour Popularity Report: Which car colours sell the most in India?-basf_color_report_2022_asia_pacific_en.jpg

Quote:
As BASF’s designers saw in other regions of the world, white was also the most popular color in Asia Pacific. The real focus this year is an increase in gray shades, hinting at a new era in the automotive industry, and the changing values and habits of car buyers.

While the total numbers aren’t huge, brown, green, and violet are all consistent in color popularity. It will be a long time before they challenge white for the most popular, but for now, they add to the tremendous diversity of color in Asia Pacific. That’s especially true among small vehicles and NEVs, which are selling in a wider range of colors.

Gray gained about six percentage points in popularity, taking market share from blue, red, gold, and brown.
Quote:
Gray is more attractive and popular than ever. Users never give up pursuing uniqueness and individuality in achromatic colors,” “Some gray shades with blue or violet undertones are working their way into the market, with solid-like effects and also added color pearl effects showing great diversity in the color space.
South America: The lightest region as white, silver, and beige dominate the market

Quote:
Historically, South American car buyers have chosen more traditional, less flashy colors. Like other regions, white is by far the favorite, and gray beats black in market share for the achromatic colors.

For chromatic colors, red and blue were stable, while brown gained some market share. Those colors were most likely chosen for smaller vehicles. Larger cars and SUVs had the highest share of achromatic colors, including new and varied effects for gray featured on larger cars.
