Interior looks decent but doubt Maruti will keep it the same in India. However exterior looks terrible. Reminds me of the old Santro--in fact, looks much worse than the old Santro. But hey, perhaps others will like it!

With the 800, alto, wagonR, Swift making 4 models in almost a single segment, it would be totally senseless/stupid to bring another 1 litre hatchback in the family.

I don't think Maruti and its chiefs are so DUMB!!

and the interiors on this looks a little too expensive for a zen replacement.
an Automatic !!!??? see where the gear lever is...
too many doubts whether these cars are the one that'll be launched here.

Mpower,
I was going to point out the same thing.
Look at the placement of the front door handles and you will see it continuing to the rear door too.
BTW, the interiors look awesome but expect cheap quality.

If they come out with a new zen, I'm pretty sure it would have some sort of resemblence to our present zen (even the mutated zen (zen classic) had a faint resemblence to its original!).
So I doubt it could be the ignis. Unless it was interpreted wrong and what they meant was maruti is coming out with a replacement for the zen and not a new zen!
Godspeed. Alok.
It should be a replacement for Zen

I agree about the looks. But I don't think Suzuki would bring another Tall boy. Ignis has roughly the same shape as Zen.
One think that should worry Maruti is, any car introduced as replacement to Zen would eat heavily into Wagon-R's market share than That of Santro's.
The car mentioned by tidzterdesign looks more of a concept. Maruti would not try to introduce an all new car for India (cost!!). I bet that they would pick one from their Japanese protfolio

Agree with you on all counts whiteknight. But do you think they would bring a similar looking car into the market? Consumers arent stupid not to see the stark resemblance of the ignis to the alto. Now that brings us back to our question... which car could it be (other than the ignis)?
But as already mentioned, I'm pretty sure it will be in the 1000 cc class, as, if a car is brought in as a replacement, it has to be in the same segment/class/cc as the zen, so as to effectively bridge the gap.

Godspeed.

Alok.

Wagon - R already has a 1099 cc engine. So will the New Zen be with Wagon - R engine. Maruti will have major problem in postioning the Car without compromising Wagon-R sales.

Exactly! Especially if the new Zen is going to be a tallboy too! At least the old Zen was in the same cost bracket as a Wagon R and gave customers who didn't want a tallboy a choice.....

The new Zen = Old name + Getz like space + Esteem engine .... :-)

Now where exactly is this car going to fit in MUL's scheme of things and in the Indian Car Buyers psyche and the already crowded HATCHBACK segment - I wonder

Wouldn't you love a Cappuccino-based hot hatch?

Well friends:

Some people do find
the Swift: too heavy and ugly,
the Alto: too stuffy and
the Wagon R: too boxy.

What if Maruti were to field a hot 1000 cc, lightweight, low slung, made-for-speed,
non Tall-boy hatchback based on the Suzuki Cappuccino with the Maruti promise of good after-sales support?

Who cares if they call it a “Zen” again?

hey dudes,
it is not the new zen.... zen is dead & buried...RIP...this is Suzuki's MR Wagon, a model that has been stopped in japan. the moulds, dies etc are imported to begin production of the car here in india. very convenient. and here are the pics...it is no way near the santro in looks...it is great.
