Respected Shri Ratan Tata Fare Thee Well !

Respected Shri Ratan Tata will be relinquishing his office tomorrow 28/12/2012. He gave the Tata Group a totally new direction. The old world charm and image of the Tata Group as painstakingly built by the founders and by his predecessor Shri J.R.D. Tata remained intact. He took the Tata Group to dizzying heights with international acquisitions, the most famous and notable ones being Tetley Tea, Corus Steel and Jaguar Land Rover. Indeed, the Tata Group now has a international (multinational) image.

In this picture from 1998, Shri Ratan Tata is seen with his pet project from Tata Motors.

Another posting by me with some more pictures on post # 264 on this thread a few days back!

Will surely miss him.
He is the reason why we can see Tata motors to be what it's today.
But pity that of recent TaMo had hit a lean patch and the great man himself is sad about it.

Re: Respected Shri Ratan Tata Fare Thee Well !

Firstly it would do justice just to talk only about the great man rather than making this another TaMo rant thread.

It was afterall an open secret that Ratan Tata was an auto enthusiast and personally looked ino TaMo affairs and surely he would have left his pet baby in safe hands for future nurturing.

The visionary who apart from other achievements -
Created first passenger car the Indica
Brought the Nano to life against all odds
Bought two of the greatest marquees JLR

I remember when he took over from JRD Tata, everybody was wondering who was this nobody. Can he replace the legendary JRD... Figured he got the job only because of his last name.

Well, he surely did grow into JRD shoes and how. Farewell and Happy retirement.

Ciao Cyrus adieu Ratan

Today Cyrus Mistry takes over the reins of Tata fro Ratan Tata.

What an era, India went global with Tata in the vanguard - Tetley, Corus, JLR. The only Shudh Bhartiya car Indica and the epoch making Nano (curse on Mamata).

We should salute the latest visionary from the House of Tata.

A small naughty note - Can the Irish now lay claims of the House of Tata!

True global Indian and he is the real example of corporate ethics. Not only did tata contributed to industry, they also ventured/funded big in science and research.

I really feel privileged to take my BTech degree from Shri Ratan Tata's hand.

Re: Respected Shri Ratan Tata Fare Thee Well !

Since this this an automotive forum, i will stick to automobile industry. This man has helped churn out some products which were designed for specific needs. We may bash the niggles in the Indica/indigo/manza/Safari, but i am sure millions of taxi drivers do not agree with us after using these vehicles for lakhs of kms over all possible terrains of our country

Also some of the specific rural products and the likes of Tata ace which segments were never targeted by others before !!

He is a dreamer and taught us to dream big and also dream for the country. Saluting the visionary called Mr. Ratan Tata.

Undoubtedly one of the most respected figure in India. From salt to software, tools to automobile TATA has it all!! There is hardly any field they don't have footprints across.

Having achieved so much, he remained so grounded and humble. The leaders of today have to learn a lot from him on humility and integrity. One of the rare few who dared to oppose opportunist politics and took on Ms Mamata head-on instead of using regular tactics and money which is what most big guys do.

He will remain my role model just for the way he carried himself, his employees & his country. We will miss him!

This pic caught my eye as the incumbent is not wearing a seat belt....hope I am proved wrong. I am a huge admirer of Mr Ratan Tata and wish his successor the very best, I really hope this picture is an aberration and as the boss of one of the biggest auto companies he should ensure that he wears seat belt ( to see the picture, scroll to the 5th photo)

Guess where did Sri Tata spent his last day in office? Yes, you guessed it - Tata Motors, manufacturing plant!

Here's what he posted on Twitter.

Re: Respected Shri Ratan Tata Fare Thee Well !

Just to add some balance to this discussion, Ratan Tata has truly taken the group global and led it well during times of extreme crises. However, not all his overseas acquisitions have worked out well. Corus is a massive drag on Tata Steel and in hindsight looks like a pretty expensive deal. Even JLR's recent success is because of models designed and conceived during Ford's ownership (like the Evoque), it remains to be seen if Tata can continue the success. I wonder whether some of these moves had to with Ratan's acute case of xenophilia.

Re: Respected Shri Ratan Tata Fare Thee Well !

Definitely a Bad News but this had to happen some day.

Truly a legacy by Ratan Tata to get this name into the households this far with an Indica remodeled and Renamed many times and sold good and giving us the Sumo and Safari. Not to forget the Jaguar and Landrover.

Hope Mr. Mistry does not let the board down and our country by getting in better and NEW products, better their After sales too.

Anurag.

Re: Respected Shri Ratan Tata Fare Thee Well !

It is really so hard to feel respect and regard for the current group of businessmen in India. Ratan Tata is the only Indian business man to whom one feels respect and regard. He has really strived to put india on the global map. More importantly he has not diminished JRD's name. He only enhanced it with his efforts. Hats off to you sir!
