I tried looking up Omni + Limited edition on Google and it gave me a 404 error. Even Google doesn't believe something like this should exist! Jokes apart, the jokes are on us. Way to go Maruti for fooling us gullibles.

But truth be told, this "thing" still has street cred as School Vans, Taxis and Ambulances. The "hamara Van" is staying on the roads at least for the next couple years - or until Maruti disposes off all their stock that is.

Omni actually came with AC option at some point IIRC, but it was discontinued in a short while.

The large cabin area would need a bigger compressor to cool effectively and the current engine in Omni wouldn't be able to take such a heavy load and deliver a reasonable performance from the engine.

With the AC specs of the discontinued AC version of Omni or carried over from Maruti 800, the engine should be able to support it but the cooling would be very ineffective.

Whatever they call it in any city, the fact remains that it till date there is no better alternative to Omni at this price point. Many small trader use it as family car when they are not moving the supplies around.

It is unsafe, no doubt about that. But how many safe cars, with twice the price tag, can we find if we look around us? It is upto the government to make safety features mandatory for all production vehicles. Till then we will continue to see such vehicles on our roads.

Having said that, I still think that the Limited Edition Omni from Maruti is a good joke and it made most of us laugh.

Out of box thinking ideas for Maruti

a) A free insurance policy for the driver

b) Ventilated front seats to protect your derriere from the heat

c) Pedestrian air bags...err...to save the driver

Seems inspired by the limited edition Nano. But then they are more or less in the same segment I guess.

Just standard fitment stuff that the Dealer fits.

Actually quite essential.

Left side mirrors should be compulsory for all cars and mandated by the Motor vehicles Act, not an option. Infact would go as far as to say that those who keep the left side view mirrors folded should be fined.

Also not providing carpet mats in a vehicle is just not done and should also be standard in even the lowest car models.

Can understand a perfume being an optional accessory but does anyone really drive his car without mats?

Nano Limited Edition was one of the better launches in the recent times - alloys, music system, stickers that doesn't make you ashamed of driving the car, glove box when it was not part of the original dash design and so on. So whats so Limited edition about it. These are all necessary basic items that should be standard. Another rip off from Maruthi. No stickers, new front, new colours, I guess that is reserved for Limited Special Edition.

Its a vehicle which should be removed from the roads of our country. Well I wont blame Maruti for not doing that , they are just meeting the needs of a person who want to have a cheap first car for his family.
But what they not thinking is that its too much of a risk to take. I have personal experiences where I have lost dear and near ones just because of this vehicle.

We are in a country where the roads are dangerous, road users seldom abide road rules and the vehicles are least equipped with any kind of safety features. Its high time that our government should give value to the life of the people who are in this country.

I am sure that it will take years together when our road infra-structure or implementation of road rules become at par with any other developing / developed nations in the world. But the easiest of the things that it can do is to mandate atleast the minimum safety standard that the vehicles plying on the road should have .

Well I don't know when my government will consider such a thing !

The only thing "limited" in this limited edition would be the lives of those people who buy this metallic bread box. It's time Maruti moves ahead. The vehicle was good during it's heyday but now times have moved on, road speeds have increased and life is more precious...

For all the nay sayers and those who say this car should be discontinued, here is a fact - Maruti managed to sell 76,488 in 2012 making it the 11th largest selling model in the country. This was a 11% decline from the previous year. Just to give a perspective, Ford sold 68,666 of it's Figo model. So Omni has beaten a 'popular' model. Why would Maruti care about plugging it out of the market. In fact, they have timed the Limited Edition model right. They want to recover that 11% drop in sales. By offering these goodies, people who want a simple cost effective goods carrier will now look twice. Like it or not the Omni will continue to rule such markets for at least half a decade more. And don't forget they are quite popular ambulances too!

Ok, we all and the govt can force Maruti to stop Omni's production. But what about the safety features of its alternatives to carry school students and others? Autorikshaws? Tata ace? Mahindra maximo? Horrible, I must say. Consider the lower end modes of all the cars sold here - what safety features other than a bonnet area is there? By banning all these cars or making them expensive by forcing them to include safety features and out of reach of common people will cause more harm than safe journeys because they will stick to the 2-wheelers, or opt for the horrible alternatives mentioned above. And we all know how 'safe' a 2-wheeler is, compared to a 3/4 wheeler.

At the end, a car is car. And the status and safety it gives compared to a 2 wheeler is very big. Please don't be jealous if your poor neighbour also buys a car.

Totally agree.

In a country that has 6-seater Hero Honda Passions, there are a lot of vehicles that are more unsafe than anything with atleast 4 wheels and a metal cage.

Limited edition OMNI with the same set of stickers? Wow this is something different from maruti.

Limited edition OMNI for me would be :

1)Better cushioning on seats.
2)Taller roof, with rear seats placed at the same level as front.
3)AC with a curtain behind second row seats to isolate the cabin from dicky.

4)Wheel caps atleast if not alloys.
5)Skirts to enhance the look.
6)Limited edition colour.
7)Broader tyres, atleast 155R12.

For all those who feel OMNI is unsafe, maruti must electronically limit top speed to make is safer.
Guys maruti is definately trying hard, they have added a safety device called left side rear view mirror.

Thats indeed a good point. To cut cost they keep the safety aspects to the minimum (or nil), but atleast it will be good that if these cars have a top speed limit similar to an auto-rickshaw.
