Mahindra dealers have confirmed that bookings are now being taken for the Scorpio Automatic, according to Indiancarsbikes.in. Mahindra has sourced a new 6-Speed Automatic transmission from Bosch.

Representative Pic of the old Scorpio Automatic:

Mahindra used to source the erstwhile 6-speed automatic from Australian company Drivetrain Systems International (DSI). DSI ran into financial trouble and was later acquired by Geely from China, forcing Mahindra to look for an alternative supplier. The earlier Scorpio Automatic was also sold only in the top VLX trim level.

The Scorpio AT remains the cheapest SUV with an automatic transmission in India. However, the automatic variant has never been a strong seller. Perhaps the real reason behind the automatic is to target sales in foreign markets, and serve as a learning exercise before the XUV500 AT is launched. Despite its age, the Scorpio continues to be a strong seller for Mahindra, clocking sales of 3,906 units last month.

The Scorpio AT 2WD is priced at Rs. 11.47 lakhs while the 4WD retails at 12.49 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).

Excellent move which can do wonders to the sales of the Scorpio. No SUV/MUV in that price bracket sports an AT box. And a lot of buyers today are more than willing to upgrade to an AT for the need of better driving comfort. Time for the Duster to come with an AT Perhaps?

Scorpio AT is the second cheapest Diesel AT *CAR*. Neck and neck with Verna 1.6 CRDI AT in terms of pricing. In fact the BS3 version used to be cheaper than Verna Diesel AT. Don't know the situation now though.

True. And for quite some distance there is no other AT box in the equation. So that gives it a clear edge over the other offerings out there. And a unit from Bosch should also be reliable I guess. Can we hope to see the same unit in the XUV too perhaps in the near future?

This report appears to be erroneous. Mahindra dealers have been taking bookings for the AT Scorpio all along. The 4WD model is built to order so takes 45-60 days to arrive, but both 2WD and 4WD are readily available. I am soon going to book the 4WD version (after looking at the Ecosport) and have been in touch with many dealers in the NCR region and can positively confirm that the Scorpio AT 6 Speed had been available atleast since November 2012, when I started researching.

I believe Scorpio is the only SUV this side of 30L to offer 4WD transfer case with a Low Ratio along the automatic transmission.

No, the Ford Endeavour also offers it.

ohh yes,how did i forget the Endeavour.
Mahindra can market it aggresively.
Recently an acquitance did a trip to himachal in an Innova and Scorpio AT.
He was all praises for the scorpio over innova.
Btw just for info he drives a Mercedes C class.

OK, so I am little confused here.
Is this official news from M&M?
If the At was availabe on order from November 2012, was it with this new AT box?

Can someone post any official news/details on this?

Nope, the Endy AT 4WD also has this combo on offer.

And yes, off late, I seen a lot of Scorpio AT 4WDs being purchased and driven in the cities. To me, it is a very good combination of a convenient automatic vehicle coupled with real off road ability. I only wish it was offered in the CRDe guise too. I would have picked it up then.

No clue on this.

How good is an AT + 4x4 combo? Am curious about that. I know some here have the AT 4x4 Scorpio, but I haven't seen any serious attempt at checking out the 4x4 aspects with the AT; only 1100D's ownership experience report of his Scorpio MT 4x4 Marengo (thanks 1100D!).

If all works well, it would be the like having cake and eating it too; AT would be great for city use, and on the rare occasion one wanted to go to a rainy hilly resort the 4x4 would come in handy.

This appears to be a new AT box. Presumably the ratios are different. Any chance of TBHP getting a new AT 4x4 Scorpio to test? Pretty please? :Cheering:

Have been looking very closely at the Scorpio AT 4x4 as a secondary vehicle, love the value for money aspect of it vs other SUVS in the market currently. Also it seems sturdy.

I had sometime last week sent a tweet to Mr. Anand Mahindra and Mr. Pawan Goenka asking them when can we expect the Xylo and XUV 500 to get automatic transmissions. Sadly the reply i got from Mr. Goenka was "Not Soon"
