Agree with you mate. Only, the point that I was trying to make is that it's time Maruti steps up their game a bit in the enthusiast community. They are the leaders, if not them, then who? A 94 horse refined petrol with good dynamics is great to have, but may not be adequate for a small group of people who like their BHP and NM.

:thumbs up
Point well made and well taken!

Maruti had a great opportunity to score brownie points with the enthusiast community with the Kizashi, but they squandered away the opportunity by not manufacturing it at home, thereby losing the price advantage. :OT

As far as the C2 segment is concerned, I think they have now let go after witnessing the dismal performances of the Baleno and SX4. They start off with good intentions IMHO, but lose the plot by plonking abysmally poor quality materials in vehicles having even slightly upmarket aspirations, as was the case with both the Baleno and the SX4. Heck, even the 16 Lac Grand Vitara had interior part quality poorer in comparison to even an i10 or an Eon! There's got to be reasonable limit to part sharing between a 5 Lac and a 16 Lac vehicle! As a manufacturer you can't get away with such a disjointed approach and the market almost always gives a big thumbs down to such products. Poor market response will invariable lead to incorrect lessons being drawn thereby shaking the confidence of the manufacturer to have new launches in the segment.

The bottom line is, market leader or not, no manufacturer wants to have sales duds on their inventory!

Any updates on this car? You have covered almost everything but a few more details on features, engines and pics would always be a treat :P Though it must be said that I cannot hope for more from a "leak"

More speculations emerge.

This new vehicle is expected to come with spiced-up front fascia, though, some details resemble existing car models of the car maker. As a matter of fact, the front portion really looks sharp with heavy chrome linings used for styling. The wide front grille looks appealing with chrome surrounds and brand logo embossed at its middle. Elongated headlamps are yet another attraction with the addition of stylish sunken fog lamps to assist driving in unfavorable conditions like in winter. The hood of this upcoming car is long with gradually tapering car bonnet. The front body colored bumper has been specially designed to get that sharp and sport wear. On lateral sides, visible but neat lines connecting the front to the rear can be really seen as a way to make this vehicle a head turner on roads. The rear portion is arguably distinct with a wide set of tail lamps flaunting a chrome garnish in between and body coloured wide and large bumper.

Maruti Suzuki YL1 is more likely to retain the same ground clearance as found in SX4. However, it is expected to get revamped interiors to make for an excellent ambient surrounding inside the cabin. A lot is supposed to change with interiors in order to enhance visibility and comfort of passengers. As per the available information, this sedan will collect some interior features from the popular Swift with other value additions. The legroom offered in this sedan is supposed to be equivalent to Nissan Sunny. As predicted, YL1 will be sharing some bits and pieces of its lavish dashboard with siblings like Swift and Ertiga.

Furthermore, interiors are expected to come painted in impressive beige-black and a wood insert placed across to deliver a premium feel. Other expected features include a factory fitted stereo system with Bluetooth connectivity, automatic climate control module with rear AC vents, sunglass holder, height adjustable steering and dead pedal. YL1 is supposed to come in both, diesel and petrol trims. As per rife speculations, this vehicle may use a smaller 1.4-litre K-Series petrol engine or 1.3-litre Fiat Multijet turbo diesel engine.

aren't all of those just a basic summary of what has already been shared a while ago in his thread on our forum?
I would still love to hear about the power ratings on this car because the 90horses multijet and the same under 100horses k-series seem to be the only dull point in this car :/

You just stole words from my mouth. Seems that the article is more or less the summary of what has been discussed on this thread.

The engines :( no more comments. They are severely handicapped by the absence of a diesel engine above the 1.3 mjd.

The YL1 spotted in India.

This looks like Maruti\'s answer to the City and Verna. I am sure they will price it well. Will be interesting to see how this competes with the upcoming next-generation City.

For me, it is the much-awaited rebirth of the good old Baleno!

Its been a long time Maruti has launched a new product in this class. I have lots of hope from this car but MSIL shouldn\'t take much time to launch this. Does anyone know when are they planning to launch?

Cheers,

As others have commented Maruti needs to look beyond 1.3. Because in 2014 when this car releases; Fiat will have 1.6 MJD Linea, VW/Skoda will have 1.5 TDI and so will others. This can be a serious downer for Maruti in the C-segment sedan category.

Looks like a capable C-Segment sedan. We should wait till we see it as a complete package.

:OT Can someone identify the vehicle next to the test mule..?

I think you're probably asking about the white SUV with snorkel in first pic, it seems to be Mitsubishi Pajero(previous gen than Montero) or rarely Toyota Land Cruiser.
