What TML should probably look at, rather than dictating a spare cost to the vendor, is how the same part is manufactured for a different manufacturer, say Toyota. What equipments, they dictate to be used, what manufacturing processes they ask for adherence to.

Rather than checking Toyota or any company as to how the same/similar part is manufactured, Tata should have stricter Vendor Audits and raise the QC bar to ensure the pats are of good quality.

Do regular and surprise audit and take necessary action on vendors who deviate on manufacturing process.

Besides this, Toyota also dictates having the vendor setup shop inside their plant, under their watchful eyes, monitoring everything, from raw materials entry to manufacturing processes. Tata I think, is very well equipped to do this.

Stricter vigilance is what is the need of the hour to get the parts quality issue solved to a certain extent.
