Absolutely true. But nevertheless Tata has displayed EV Commercial vehicles viz. the Iris and the Hybrid Starbus at the ongoing AutoExpo.
AFAIK, Tata has all the technologies in place to get EV cars on Indian roads whenever the market is evolved to accept EVs. The dismal sales of Reva show that the Indian consumers/market isn't ready for them.

An awesome stall by Tata. I think they are watching the market quite closely and doing improvements slowly; and I am happy that they have some really nice cars out there on display. I personally liked the Zest sedan and the Nano. I wish them all the best with their new cars. The interiors in each and every car on display are very refreshed! Wow! I hope they carry on these good things forward now for their every car :thumbs up

I just don't get it with some of the responses that keep coming up over and over again! Correct me if I am wrong, when Tata Motors announced HorizonNext, didn't they make it clear that new platforms - like X0 and/or the AMP, they are working on, will only be launched in 2015 and while they put their house in order in terms of ASS and QC, they are just going to revamp / upgrade current products and improve them as much as possible?

Clearly almost everyone knew that Bolt and the Zest will be a revamped Vista and a Manza CS, the company has announced they have nothing radically new to offer in terms entire products for sometime, still we keep harping on the same line about how they share design cues with the old car. People this is a revamp not a new model!

I realise I've been a little harsh in the above, I'm not a fan boy, but it is getting a little annoying every time I read a TM thread and find the same thing over and over again.

Very boring and doesnt offer any directions. Concepts should have materials and metal forming that could be done by Tata. We know what they can do though and it will be very difficult for them since everybody else is coming up with lots of products that they already have and easier to introduce.

TATA Add Venture concept. This looks nice, but with the same old Indica engine in BS3 norms. If they plonk Fiat 90 BHP engine and better GC, it would be nice

The Bolt, Zest and the Venture are displayed in matte paint. Is that just for the Expo or do we get to see them in production, too?

Good Show Tata (and the excellent coverage by TBHP). The interiors, the projection headlamps and the semi-automatic tranny in the sedan - are very impressive. It is sad that Karl Slym is not there to see the expo in person.

There was a thread a couple of years back on Tata Vista EV winning some competition in Europe. What happened to those plans?

This is exactly what I was wondering. The Vista electric had won a competition in Norway and at the time Tata had announced that they will consider hybrid cars for India.
TML have also taken over a French company which specializes in hydrogen propulsion engines around 2008-09, but no news after that.

IMHO, even if fully electric cars are not yet relevant to India (heck, we're an electricity deficient country), TML can atleast show-case concepts to keep the TML electric cars prowess foremost on peoples minds. Right now that mind-space is owned by Reva.

I agree. The Active looks a little busy, but quite good/new. The only snag is crashworthiness or lack thereof inherent in the small size, no matter what they do in this direction. As an owner of the 2013 version, I can't see myself tempted by any extra power from a larger engine for fear of where to use it. The current engine is fine for the city - indeed it did very well on a recent run to Goa too, but I was very careful on the drive.

The Sumo. Amazing tires on them.

A testament of how TML has managed to turn things around in the last week or so. Hope they do not lose momentum and continue to keep driving consumer interest.

This apart from a hugely popular separate thread around the Bolt/Zest launch. Sorry for going off-topic.

Came across this rather interesting article in on the Economic Times website kind of ties into ConnectNext, I think:

I always felt that Nano should have been with openable hatch from day one.
It would be a welcome move if Tata could relaunch Nano with openable hatch.

I'm surprised by this statement! It still looks like Vista, the over all design I'm talking about.

Yes, a better version and I personally like it, especially the interiors.
Any comments on the overall quality, fit & finish?

Wow these cars looks better than the concept car in LA auto show..
feeling good to see the innovations happening

The Sumo extreme looks interesting. Any kind of off-road mod goes well with that timeless, boxy design. Any idea if its intended for production, or just another styling exercise?
