Japanese WagonR caught testing in India

Seems Maruti is in a hurry now with facelifts and the new launches they are targeting to achieve their double digit growth plans.

Latest facelift seem to be of the 2015 Wagon R. It could be the only Car from Maruti to avilable in all fuel types and transmission at the time of launch ( Petrol MT , Petrol AMT , CNG MT & Diesel MT )

re: Japanese WagonR caught testing in India

This is the current generation JDM WagonR. No way Maruti's gonna leave a completely uncamouflaged test mule on the roads! They're mostly testing the components.

Petrol AMT seems unlikely, will kill off the Celerio instantly.

Nice catch - but would a model with an upcoming launch have permanent registration and roam un-camouflaged ?

The badging on the hatch seems to convey that this model might have something like Scorpio's Micro Hybrid.

Is it just me or does this resemble more with the Wagon R - type 2 that used to sell around 2005?

This looks more like a van than a car.

re: Japanese WagonR caught testing in India

Did Maruti use a sharp knife and cut the edges to make it F.L.A.T!

IMO, it looks bad with those negligible overhangs and those large wheel arches along with sharp lines but I like the grille that sports the Suzuki badge. They are trying to get the SUV look on a hatch with an even small bonnet, I can feel the front passengers will have a tough time on frontal collision.

'Idling Stop' - Seems to be the Start/Stop system that stops the engine during traffic idling to save fuel.

I can see history repeat:

1) Rear numberplate goes back to it's original position i.e. on the rear bumper;

2) The front numberplate is placed at an offset to the left like the initial WagonR's.

Even the tail lights have become a thin line just like the pre-2006 ones.

The bonnet is so short because mostly its got the JDM 660cc engine of the Kei car types. Our Wagon R has longer bonnet in order to fit the K series engine.

They crossed the WagonR with the A-Star to make this? Looks terrible!
Anyway, lets see what they have.

Auto + tall boy will be a nice combo though; seniors would love it.

Its the JDM wagonR. That small bonnet (to accomodate 660 cc turbo charged enigne) is a clear giveaway.

Besides, the small high mount stop lamp and rear windows do not point to an upgrade, rather can only be called a downgrade.

GaadiWaadi guys got it wrong i think.

re: Japanese WagonR caught testing in India

This car looks equally ugly just like the Stingray. I really don't understand the need of destroying a subtle design in the name of face-lift. The headlamps have been designed after a lot of photo-shop effort on the A Star headlights. The car appears to be shorter than every generation of Wagon R we have had in India so far.

Just by placing vents on the radiator grill not much change can be achieved since the base/ inspiration of such a radiator grill is taken from Stingray which is correctly called a dud by my friend Anurag.

The entire weekend got spoiled after seeing a sticker-ed XUV as special edition and now to top it all this comes out suddenly.

Thanks.

It looks SO JAPANESE!
And IMO it looks pretty cool too. However, since I belong to the tiny herd of black sheep who totally loved the Stingray for it's front (again Japanese-ish) styling, have a feeling that this relatively new avatar might just do well with the Indian customer.

re: Japanese WagonR caught testing in India

Is there no provision for after market fogs just like the Alto 800 ?
IMO this looks more proportionate than the current K Series Wagon-R. Pull type door handles are also a welcome move.
Hope they do something to improve the low end response of the K10B. The current crop of k10s have very weak low end torque with the AC on.

Another box with an engine and wheels. I wonder what the design team at maruti is being paid for? This looks identical to the stingray which again looks like a wagon R. It's cut from all the sides with a ruler and a blade.

They are paid to create boxes with wheels.

Too sharp that blade seems to be. Lol! Design is OK but the tail lamp, high mounted stop lamp have become too small in size for my liking.

Looks like this is purely from designers at Suzuki Japan and not Maruti as far as the design is concerned. This is the 4th generation Wagon R that was launched in 2008 which got a facelift along with a hybrid motor in 2012.

Quote:
The facelited Wagon R range was launched in Japan in September 2012 and for the first time, this facelit now comes with the a new mild-hybrid system named "ENE-CHARGE" (short for 'energy charge') and an energy-saving electric air conditioning system dubbed "ECO-COOL". With the R06A engine combined with an electric motor/generator and a lithium-ion battery, this new ENE-CHARGE provides regenerative braking and at least some level of power assist to the internal combustion engine while it can also run certain electrical equipment. Thanks to this technology, the new Wagon R can get up to 28.8 km/l in Japan's JC08 driving cycle (67.8mpg US, 3.5lt/100 km EU or 81.4mpg UK).
source

As others already pointed out, Maruti is probably using a direct import and evaluating the gain in FE with the hybrid system under Indian conditions to decide whether it would be worth the cost to launch it here.
