Ciaz - SHVS will be soon the most fuel efficient car at 28km/l.

Maruti is also working out plans to bring the same SHVS to Swift and Dzire, Ertiga and will cross the fuel mileage of 30km/l

It is not clear if these hybrids are Diesel or Petrol engined. Mild Hybrids being not as efficient as full hybrids, I suspect these are diesel hybrids, that only have limited mileage boosting.

Perhaps boost is in the range of 10%, but having the tag of hybrid is enough to get the govt. subsidy!!

Interesting nevertheless.

Re: Soon, affordable Hybrid cars from Maruti!

The real question in everyone's mind should be:

Is the 8% increase in fuel efficiency worth the extra 15 grand PLUS the mechanical issues that new hybrid technology always brings? (After nearly a decade of micro hybrid tech in the states, lets just say its not a foolproof technology, even with Maruti's badge on it)

Hybrids from Maruti will be in both Diesel and Petrol variants. IMO they started with Diesel to get the tag line of being the most fuel efficient car.

The Ciaz SHVS just released proves the above with more to come. The frugal fuel-saving technology is expected to be used in the Maruti Dzire and Ertiga next.

Re: Soon, affordable Hybrid cars from Maruti!

Maruti vehicles are known for their higher mileage, an edge which they have over their closest competitors. Higher mileage is the USP which has helped Maruti to boost its sales figures and now that the company is planning to come up with affordable hybrid cars, it will definitely further consolidate its top position in the Indian auto market.

Let us assume a fuel efficiency of 20 kmpl of a car. Now this 15K can give you additional 4600 km of mileage. So, this additional 8% will definitely be worth if you are planning to to keep car for longer than 50k kms on the odometer. Moreover, such car may give you better resale value.

It is actually 20K Cheaper than the outgoing model. So it is ultra VFM now.

Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire AMT Spied testing, ZDI variant

So finally an auto gear shift on a Diesel Maruti Car.

Ertiga Automatic SHVS ZDi+ almost sounds like a dream come true. I am sure there is going to be a long waiting period.

Another Ertiga Related News -

At the Ciaz SHVS' launch event, it was officially confirmed that the carmaker would equip more of its models with the SHVS tech. Our sources tell us that the next model in line will likely be the updated Ertiga. Unveiled recently in Indonesia, the updated Ertiga gets minor styling tweaks on the exteriors. The version headed to India could also get the addition of the 7-inch touchscreen equipped with the SmartPlay infotainment system. The Ertiga in its current diesel avatar does 20.77kpl, and the addition of SHVS tech will surely help it move closer to Mobilio’s 24.5kpl mark.

Re: Soon, affordable Hybrid cars from Maruti!

Maruti is changing its brand image. Gone are the days when Maruti cars meant old school design and technology. With AMT for common people, now with modified Ciaz for improved mileage, improved interiors of S cross, Maruti seems to be heading in a right direction.
Hopefully ABS and Airbags along with an improved steel strength chasis are also in Maruti's future plans.

Re: Maruti Ertiga : Official Review

I was watching the CNBC Awaz Overdrive programme this afternoon in which they showed the launch of the Ciaz SHVS. They did make a mention that the next car in line to get the SHVS technology will be the Ertiga.

So most of the sources suggest that in the upcoming facelift launch the Ertiga will sport the SHVS badge. Now it only remains to be seen how MSIL prices the new Ertiga. I have a feeling that they would charge a premium of 20-25K over the existing price (or even more), unlike the Ciaz (where it was reduced by a similar amount). The reason for this being that the facelift is likely to have the most of the below mentioned new features and not just the SHVS technology:
  • Split third row of seats
  • AVN with reverse parking sensors
  • Auto Climate Control
  • Auto folding mirrors
  • Revamped exteriors
  • Different colour scheme for interiors
Unlike the Ciaz, which has a strong competitor in the Honda City, there is no direct competition for the Ertiga. Mobilio is being sold at huge discounts, Renault Lodgy has very few takers and has to depend on discounts for moving them off the showrooms. Chevy Enjoy didn't arouse any interests due to its Chinese origins, Innova is altogether different segment and very premium pricing.

So there is a huge possibility that the Ertiga SHVS will set the sales charts on fire for this particular segment.

Expect all the listed once except ACC. I don't think the Ertiga will get it.

I agree that there is no other car except Innova to challenge the Ertiga by any means. It stands the undisputed winner in the segment.

Re: Soon, affordable Hybrid cars from Maruti!

Implementing SHVS on all cars is the next logical thing to do, once the technology has proved its mettle in one car. If really the technology helps increase FE in Ciaz, without much headaches for the owner, it will be a hit, and will be a game changer across segments. Reason being, FE is a common measure for all cars from Alto to luxury ones.
With a few tweakings in the engine, AMT gearbox quickly upshifting, SVHS stopping the engine when not used, they can easily cross 25 kmpl for a petrol engine and about 30 kmpl for a diesel engine. Days are not far, before we start seeing such tall figures in the ARAI ratings.

Maruti Plans to Bring More Products With Hybrid Technology.

As a market leader and a responsible corporate citizen, we are fully sensitive to our duty towards the environment. We were the first ones to launch mild hybrid products with reasonably good volumes. This process of hybridisation will be expanded further in the next few years

SMC/Maruti to bring Hybrid cars to India.

Quote:
The future will belong to low cost next generation small hybrid cars and Maruti Suzuki, along with SMC, is working aggressively on this technology as no global market has these cars in large numbers.
