Hyundai MPV coming in 2016

Earlier this year, we had reported that South Korean manufacturer Hyundai is gearing up to shift its focus to the compact SUV and MPV segments in India. The company recently revealed that it will launch the ix25, its global compact SUV, and the Elite i20 Cross in India in the coming year. However, the MPV is not expected to hit the market before 2016.

While not much is known about the MPV, it is expected to be aimed at the Toyota Innova and is likely to have a 7-seater layout. It is being speculated that the MPV will have a monocoque bodyshell and front-wheel drive. Both, petrol and turbocharged diesel engines are expected to be offered.

Like other models in the pipeline, Hyundai is targeting 90% localisation, which should help it to keep the price of the vehicle in check.

And about time too. Let's hope it's a full fledged spacious 7 seater which can seriously challenge the Innova unlike the 'compact' 7 seater jobs like the Ertiga and Mobilio. It's still well over a year away unfortunately.

Wonder what happened to the MPV showcased at the Auto Expo 2012 ? Looked good, though with a smallish 3rd row.

Hope this one is priced competitively.

Re: Hyundai MPV coming in 2016

Hyundai lines up compact and premium SUV's.

Within a 3-4 years time plan with Hyundai plans its models across segments in the UV segment. The sub 4 m segment Hyundai feels will be taken care of by their ' just released' i20 Active model

Hyundai will be launching a compact SUV this festive season based on the ix25 platform, or code GS, to take on the Renault Duster/ Terrano which is speculated to be launched this festive season - August -15?

This will be followed by an MPV codenamed 'IP' in 2017 to compete against the Honda Mobilio

The company is also considering a premium SUV based on the ix35 platform to take on the Mahindra XUV in 2018. That, along with the new Santa Fe, will help Hyundai have an offering right across the utility vehicle range.

Hyundai making rapid strides in untested waters. Why not? The time is ripe for such experiments.
Tata Motors and Mahindra, the current serious players in the UV segment, have to seriously up their game to stay relevant.
Seeing Hyundai all these years, they are sure to blast past the home grown biggies.

Re: Hyundai MPV coming in 2016

I work for Hyundai and honestly believe that most of their "good" vehicles have not been launched in India.

I hope that Hyundai does not consider launching the H1 here -

Instead they should launch -

* The new Sonata with a diesel mill and price it just a tad below the Superb -

* The Azera and price it on par with the Passat -

KIA makes great vehicles and they should definitely launch the below models, even if it under the Hyundai brand -

* The new Sorento -

* The new Carnival -

Now, at the launch of its Creta SUV, the company has confirmed that development of the MPV, which will rival the Maruti Ertiga and Honda Mobilio, is underway.
Hyundai is toying with the idea of a sub-four-metre compact SUV to sit below the Creta and take on the Ford EcoSport. The smaller size, of course, would allow for a more aggressive price.

The photos look like that of the Hyundai ic25. It's basically a stretched ix20.

There are lots of spy pics of ic25 and ix20.

I agree it looks like an ic25, or a stretched version of the ix20 sold in Europe.

However, on looking closely, it looks like Autocar India have done a crude photoshop job, and are attempting to pass it off as a camouflaged test mule.

Take a close look at that rear quarter-glass on the C-pillar and the roofline immeditely above it. And another close look at the recessed crease running along the lower portion of the doors. The anomalies are quite obvious!

In fact, one can also see the vertical lines created by the "cut, lengthen, copy & paste" job that was done by ACI.

This was probably an ix20 being tested by Hyundai without camouflage. At least one such vehicle was already posted on some other thread. ACI have done their crude image modification on an actual ix20, and are attempting to pass it off as a spy photo. Why, ACI, why?!?

Also, actual Hyundai test mules happen to have generous black camouflage all-around, wherever in the world they are testing in.

Having said that, I would not be surprised if the final product turns out to be a stretched and raised version of the ix20 or a modified ic25 "top hat" built on the Creta platform, with plenty of part sharing with other Hyundais (as predicted by ACI).

I really like the rear bumper of the ix20. Protruding out, placed high and looking handsome, it is what a rear bumper should be. I hope Hyundai give the same rear bumper and tail lamp treatment for their upcoming MPV code-named as IP.

This does make sense for sure. Ford's sub-4m EcoSport doesn't really face any serious competition for now. The Rio and Quanto are there, as are all the cross-hatches in the sub-4m space, but they aren't really competition for the EcoSport.

This would change in the future with Maruti Suzuki's YBA and Mahindra's S101. GM are reported to be looking at entering this segment, as are Renault. Hyundai would also want to have a share of the pie in this segment, which may turn out to be the next hottest one, and as crowded as the sub-4m compact sedan space. Customers would be spoilt for choice, which is a fantastic thing!

Thanks Raj ! That is a nice array of cars they have , What about the Hyundai Genesis? That is also one awesome car right?

The MPV does look interesting, at a first glass looks more attention grabbing than the ertiga and seems well rounded, wow Hyundai is just heating up the market one by one

Hyundai better get this quickly. MSIL will have sleepless nights after seeing this. Honda won't be bothered as long as they sell more citys than Hyundai sells Vernas.

This one really has the capability to sell another 4000 units a month.

The vehicle in the images is a compact 5 seater MPV that Hyundai sells in Europe. It is the ix20. It was launched there in 2010 and is due for replacement soon.

http://worldwide.hyundai.com/WW/Show...PIP/index.html

According to Wiki, the car is built on the same platform as the Hyundai i20 (the one that was replaced by the Elite i20), Kia Rio, Kia Venga, and Kia Soul.

In all likelihood, Hyundai is planning the ix20 replacement as a world car, probably in 2 lengths (like i10 Grand for India and regular i10 for Europe) ... and probably the longer 7 seater version of this will be made in India.

I guess that the design would follow the Hexa Space concept revealed at Auto Expo 2012.

+1 to that. With ix20, Hyundai could be targeting the types of Jazz and YRA first rather than gunning for Ertiga/Mobilio segment.

Size wise, Hexa space appears to be in Lodgy's territory, but the spy shot on the previos page indicates, this MPV would be either on par or smaller than Ertiga in Length. One thing for sure, is that they might load the vehicle fully and might be better equipped than Mobilio and Ertiga.
