The facts are given below. The Safari is the heaviest, but by 50-90 kg - no the whopping 200kg+ differences being bandied about:

Please see the difference between 4x4 vs 4x4 not 4x2. 1880 is the weight of 4x2 version fortuner, where as 2095 kg of storme is 4x4 version.

4x4 Strome 2095-1970(4x4 - fortuner)=125kg

4x2 storme 2000-1880(4x2- fortuner)=120 kg

50-90 kg referred by Steeroid is with regard to scorpio.

Re: Next-gen Tata Sumo coming on 'Raptor' platform

Spotted a Sumo on test plates with disguised bonnet and front end, at Shrivardhan (of all places!) some 200km from Mumbai. There seemed no changes to any body panels, in fact they didn't even bother disguising the remaining body panels. Mild facelift perhaps? Or does the disguise suggest changes to the drivetrain ?

Re: Next-gen Tata Sumo coming on 'Raptor' platform

Could be the new sub 2 liter engine under test. Infact TML could have re-engineered the the old 483DL engine to accept a new head with CRDi fuel delivery. The Raptor platform seems to be a fusion of ladder frame with monocoque body ala Land Rovers of yore. That way, it wouldn't be possible to mount the current Sumo body over the Raptor platform. So I'm pretty sure the changes are to the powertrain, not the bodywork.

Re: Next-gen Tata Sumo coming on 'Raptor' platform

I think the Sumo's retro look still has a certain pull to it. The clean, straight lines, that boxy, but slightly curvy shape is classic.

I dig the retro look and in my opinion, a new Sumo based on the original's design philosophy, can still attract decent numbers. New chassis, new interiors, basically all new. Shorter, but powerful and fun enough to target the soft roaders.

I tinkered a little with the current Sumo and shaped it into what I would like to see in the next one. What do you think?

Good effort man.

Very appealing. Like an Indian take on the Ford Bronco.

Don't forget that Fortuner is a much larger vehicle with a 3.0 Liter engine and center differentials, not to mention much beefier suspension, differentials and axles.

Superb job, loved this one. Wish Tata would come up with something like this.

Re: Next-gen Tata Sumo coming on 'Raptor' platform

A Tata Sumo test mule was caught on camera on the water-filled roads of Pune (leading towards Mumbai) by my good friend Autospy, who also took a short video.

The Sumo test mule had it's rear doors and rear quarter panels wrapped in camouflage, and was closely followed by a Tata Hexa.

Lovely !

Having owned one, I hope they increase the wheel base a bit. 2400 mm for this is too short - causes lowered stability at highway speeds. Else this was such a nice vehicle in it's Victa GX avatar. I still miss my Sumo ( even after 4+ years with my Storme) !
