The New X-Trail is expected to be launched in India, at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo-

The 7-seater SUV is reported to have its Indian launch at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo.

The X-Trail features the automaker’s current design philosophy and the car is based on Renault-Nissan’s Common Module Family (CMF) platform. It has dimensions of 4,640 mm, 1,820 mm and 1,720 mm in length, width and height respectively. The wheelbase is 2,705 mm while the boot space is rated at 550 litres with third row of seats folded down.

The interior has a dual-tone layout with the centre console finished in gloss black, which houses the 7-inch Nissan Connect infotainment system. Silver-finished accents can be seen on the AC vents, steering wheel and the transmission tunnel. The two-pod instrument cluster sits behind the leather-wrapped three spoke multi-function steering wheel.

Re: Rumour: Nissan to launch new X-Trail during festive season. EDIT: Launch postponed to 2016 Auto

In November 2015, we had reported that Nissan would launch the third-generation X-Trail SUV in India at the 2016 Auto Expo. The company was expected to launch the car with a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder dCi diesel engine. However, according to a new media report, the car is now expected to come with a petrol hybrid powerplant.

The Japanese-spec X-Trail hybrid has a 2.0-litre petrol engine (MR20DD) that puts out 145 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 207 Nm of torque @ 4,400 rpm + an electric motor that develops 40 BHP and 160 Nm of torque. The car has a CVT gearbox and a four-wheel drive system.

The hybrid powerplant is likely to help the X-Trail benefit from the FAME India (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles in India) scheme. Additionally, with sales of diesel cars with engines larger than 2,000cc banned in certain parts of the country and taxes on other diesel cars likely to be hiked, a petrol hybrid seems to be a safer option.

The third-generation X-Trail is built on Renault-Nissan's CMF-C/D platform. Its design is in line with other Nissan crossovers and SUVs. The interiors of the car feature seven seats and are more modern compared to the old X-Trail, which was discontinued in India in February 2014.

Nissan is likely to bring the X-Trail to India as a CBU.

Re: Rumour: Nissan to launch new X-Trail during festive season. EDIT: Launch postponed to 2016 Auto

I welcome the petrol hybrid option, but why a CBU? The earlier X-Trail (an extremely accomplished machine) had great difficulty in selling in meaningful numbers only because of its CBU pricing. Haven't the folks at Nissan learned from their past mistake?

Nissan shouldn't neglect the diesel option when they have access to Renault's excellent dCi engine range. The dirty fuel may have come under (well-deserved) fire from the Hon'ble SC, but one should never underestimate the influence wielded by the diesel lobby in this country, ever! The discouragement of diesel vehicles in highly polluted Delhi-NCR has left the diesel lobby fuming with rabid rage. They are likely to try anything and everything possible to claw back their turf. The diesel lobby may do the dirty by getting their notorious chums in the oil mafia to increase the fake & disgusting artificial price gap between petrol & diesel yet again. Long overdue judicial correction notwithstanding, the diesel lobby still have the powers-that-be in this country well under their control.

Nissan should never forget this unholy nexus that maintains a detestable artificial difference between the prices of petrol & diesel in this country. So they should provide the Renault M9R dCi as well on the new X-Trail, in addition to the petrol hybrid.

Re: Rumour: Nissan to launch new X-Trail during festive season. EDIT: Launch postponed to 2016 Auto

Thank you to Utkarsha Mohan for sending in this information. Heartfelt gratitude for sharing it with other enthusiasts!

Recently, we had reported that Nissan will launch the third-generation X-Trail in India with a petrol hybrid powerplant. A search on zauba.com reveals that the company has imported a couple of units of the SUV. These vehicles will most likely be used for the launch of the car, which is expected to take place at the 2016 Auto Expo.

If they launch the hybrid, that is a surprisingly brilliant move from Nissan which usually makes harebrained decisions.

The hybrid will deliver fuel economy and the choice of petrol will allow it to get a jump in Delhi, India's no.1 market for expensive cars. As we all know, 2.0L diesel SUVs have been banned there.

It's a CBU anyway, so to them, the effort of bringing it in is zero.

Nissan X-Trail already has a 1.6L diesel engine in its fold & i truly believe it is doing a hazy & a myopic decision by only bringing in the petrol hybrid.

Australian X-Trails have this 1.6L Diesel (128 hp, 320 NM) on sale since October 2014.

Check this link HERE for more details on the 1.6L Diesel of this X-Trail.

A 1.6L diesel in a 1,500 kilo SUV would be wheezy. Not the kind of performance you'd expect after spending 25 - 30 lakhs.

Why Not ?

IMO 1500 kgs for an SUV is relatively light & Nissan has done a good job with the weight savings.

Also comparing our most popular SUV in the Indian market i.e. Toyota Fortuner which is aprox 2000 Kgs in weight having 3L D has power to weight ratio of 84.5 hp/ton & torque to weight ratio of 180 NM/Ton.

Comparing the above figures to the 1.6L Diesel of the X-Trail having power to weight ratio of 84 hp / Ton & torque to weight is 213 NM/Ton.

So definitely the 1.6L Diesel of the X-Trail will not feel underpowered

Like yourself i do also like big engines

BUT i still feel they should have brought in the 1.6L D in the X-Trail as an option too considering the recent Delhi Ban of Diesel engines > 2L

Re: Rumour: Nissan to launch new X-Trail. EDIT: Launch postponed to 2016 Auto Expo

2 more X-Trails have been imported as per the import data in Zauba site.

Any idea when the car will be available if they launch it in the Auto show?
