Fiat Qubo & Doblo spotted testing in India!

The Fiat Qubo and Doblo have been spotted in India as per a report in MotorOctane. It is not clear whether Fiat is testing them for India or whether they are here for some other purpose. The images below indicate a proper registration.

Fiat’s Qubo and Doblo have been spotted on test in India itself. These vehicles are based on the Punto’s hybrid platform, so maybe just maybe, the Italian automaker is contemplating or just testing them in India.

The initial plan of getting the X3U platform, which has a hatchback, sedan and an SUV has been scrapped. Now, a new hybrid platform is being developed for developing markets that will get features like European cars and will be built for road conditions like ours. The plans are still in the making and it is a bit too early to come to a conclusion.

However it is true that the Fiat brand is experimenting and testing several new cars in different segments to understand, which could be the ideal range of products for the Indian car market. The Qubo and the Doblo both are running on the Multijet engine and these could be a good range of MPVs to be introduced under the compact segment.

They have been testing vehicles of this class from long time back. Years ago some one had reported spotting of previous generaton doblo. Why dont they launch it?

I think these vehicles can be a good competition to ertiga. Hopefully taxi operators will also like it.

Qubo -- well it should be named 'Oh No', i cannot imagine a much more badly designed vehicle. There is no way they are going to bring this in India. From a practical point of view, it may be good, but we need to consideration to design and this is total turn off.

So were/are the Mobilio, Lodgy, but these couldn't dent its sales. A quirky Fiat...? Fat chance IMO.

The vehicle might be good on counts wrt an Ertiga but I honestly feel, Fiat would be better w/o launching it here. The market is too biased towards Maruti [reasons can be debated elsewhere]

Supremely ugly, sorry. Fiat India has a habit of bringing in oddball vehicles to generally test in India for whatever reason.

I remember when I visited their Kurla factory a long time back and spotted a Multipla. (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/....html?image=18)

Fiat needs to prioritize the Indian market. Don't remember where exactly, but someone rightly pointed, Fiat is the supplier to others of engine technology, but isn't able to properly tune & sell it's own cars. Ironic! Even the Manza with the Quadrajet & Saffire engines saw better reception than the Linea.

Rightly said. Fiat is already holding a position weaker than Datsun with respect to the number of cars sold per month. It has been a quirky brand with very different type of cars - Consider Punto / Linea's out of the world style, and now, Abarth's BHP.

Again, can't agree with you more. I do not think they were after the sales numbers. If so, they would have done something to actually increase the numbers. There are many proven ways to do it - Compact sedan, compact SUV, MPV, Crossover etc apart from hatchbacks and sedans for different budget. All manufacturers serious about sales numbers are considering some or all options.

Is there any other manufacturer with as big sales & service network of Maruti, and capacity to produce cars to satisfy the demand, but still failing due to this Indian buyer's bias? Maruti is giving what the mass market wants, in time, and supports it. No wonder an average buyer need not look beyond it.

Absolutely.
The only good thing about Qubo's design is that it is better looking than Multipla
I don't think Fiat should be launching this vehicle in India. They are better off implementing their plan of Punto/Linea/Jeep rather than taking their focus off that with Qubo kind of vehicles.

Re: Fiat Qubo & Doblo spotted testing in India!

Those cars are so ugly that it can spawn a whole new selection of yo Fiat so ugly jokes.

For instance, Yo Fiat so ugly that if I see it in my rearview mirror, it'll turn me to stone.

Whatever happened to Italian flair and panache with these designs? Utilitarian they might be, but they're the poster-child for ugliness. I'm sure that even if Fiat wants to enter the MPV market (which they doubtlessly do), they can do a hell of a lot better than this purely from a design standpoint.

Re: Fiat Qubo & Doblo spotted testing in India!

Looks like its imported for someone in the Fiat Factory or purely testing some components. Fat change of this getting launched and then even fatter chance of it even selling in decent numbers.

Re: Fiat Qubo & Doblo spotted testing in India!

Hello,

This car is in testing since last more than one year.

Initially, they were running it daily on Pune-Ahmednagar Road along with Linea and Punto Abarth.

There should be multiple of these imported for benchmarking or similar exercises.
