Maruti need more media friendly faces in launches.

Another point which was weird is the cost of development. 168 Million Rupees is just too less right? Or did i catch the number wrong? They have been testing this car across India for over a year now.

Looks like a premium of 1.4 lakhs over 1.2 Alpha. Totally not worth it at that price.

Baleno RS launched at Rs. 8.69 lacs ex-showroom Delhi

The Maruti Baleno RS: 1.0L turbo-petrol engine. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 8.69 lakh-capture.jpg

Price ₹ 8,69,000/- ex showroom Delhi, and the Mileage is 21.1kmpl.

Bangalore OTR price would be approx. ₹10,85,000/-

Rs. 8.69 Lakh for RS and that too introductory :Shockked:

Ex-Showroom for Alpha Petrol in Delhi is Rs. 729,794 !! That means increase of 1.4L !!

Am I missing something or has Maruti gone insane :Frustrati

Few Points :

1. Premium pricing!!

2. Suspension setup is different from regular Baleno and tuned for better handling

3. Front disc brakes : 14 inch and rear disc brakes : 13 inch

4. 0-100 is better by 14 percent than 1.2 Baleno : 12.6 vs 10.8?? Autocar has got 12.6 seconds for 1.2 Baleno on their V Box.

5. RS : Road Sports ( Well, you get better bigger faster cars at that price)

W-H-A-T?? :deadhorse

If this works too - then basically Maruti can sell anything.

:uncontrol. But we need to wait and see the market's reaction. The 1.6 S-Cross was not accepted well initially although it had credits to it for power and performance.

In comparison, the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI is at Rs 9.11 lakhs, while the Fiat Punto Abarth is at Rs 9.90 lakhs, both ex-showroom, Delhi.

We know what the Punto Abarth brings to the table, and the Baleno RS isn't even remotely close to that.

As for the Polo GT TSI, at a mere 42,000 rupees more, gives you a 1199cc, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine, a lightning-quick 7-speed DSG, better torque figures which translates into better on-road performance, much better build quality, and a high desirability factor. Difference is peanuts in EMI terms.

In a broader spectrum, the pricing is more than some of the explosive diesel compact sedans, even. The 1.5L Volkswagen Ameo diesel and the 1.5L Ford Aspire diesel are fantastic packages, and offered at well below this price.

Heck, even the Honda City S petrol (at 2 segments above) is cheaper, and that has a 1.5L i-VTEC heart churning out 117PS and 145Nm of torque.

But I know of some hardcore Maruti fanatics who will still rush to buy this pseudo/watered-down "RS" iteration and make it a grand success as well.

This also means VW can't sell anything! What is the difference between TSI and normal petrol Polo?

Maruti has done a Honda!

Just checked Carwale for the pricing of Baleno in Delhi.

-Baleno 1.2 Alpha: Ex-showroom Price = Rs. 729792 /-
-Baleno 1.3 Alpha: Ex-showroom Price = Rs. 843716 /-

So the RS at Rs. 8.69 lacs is the costliest variant of of the Baleno! That's some optimistic pricing I must say!

The Polo with the high tech TSI engine and sweet DSG commands a premium of roughly Rs. 2 lacs over the regular Polo 1.2 Highline Petrol.

What has happened here I believe is that Maruti knows the GT TSI doesn't really have a direct competitor right now and have thus priced the Baleno RS at a premium. They're basically banking on the fact that just about anything will sell with a Maruti Suzuki tag on it!! No offence meant, but that's how it is I think. A price difference of about Rs. 1 lac over the 1.2 Alpha would probably have been acceptable.

One could buy a Figo 1.5D Titanium(O) for about the same price and Titanium+ for an additional ~40K, both OTR, in road tax hell Karnataka of all places!

Explosive engine, good ride/handling, top notch safety equipment, similar (or better?) build quality, the only potential fly in the ointment being the non-premium interiors (subjective opinion any day).

Introductory pricing means this will bridge the gap with the GT TSi by summerlol:

P.S. Wishful thinking of course, but what if VW now launched a manual 1.2 TSi about a Lac cheaper than the DSG, undercutting the Baleno RS by ~60k?

Not to forget the build quality of Polo.

"If this works too - then basically Maruti can sell anything." Fully agreed. If this works, my next car might also be a Maruti !! I am really shocked with the (over ??)confidence of Maruti management.

Now we all know the reason behind Maruti choosing Friday ]evening that too 6.30 for launching Baleno RS. Lol. They succeeded in keeping -ve online reaction very low. Example this thread itself, hardly any posts after announcing the price. Imagine if they launched it during normal office hours.

Forget Polo TSi, I'll happily go for even Jazz V CVT variant (cheaper than Baleno RS). Honda City 1.5 VTEC S variant is cheaper than this one.

Why don't they remove 4 doors and hatch from Baleno RS and make those Power-to-weight figure even more attractive?:D. If they can sell Swift Glory edition they can sell this one too.
