Positioning is clearly against Fortuner, Endeavor and Kodiaq. I went into the booking link and found the following in the FAQs :

The price details of the vehicle will be available post the launch of the vehicle only. Positioned in the high end SUV segment, the ALTURAS G4 will compete with players that operate in the Rs.30+ Lakhs (Ex-Showroom) price range.

Interesting that both Jeep Compass Trailhawk and Mahindra G-4 will end up around Rs. 30 L OTR. They could end up being competitors, though very different in size: both Auto+Diesel+4WD, luxurious with leather electric/memory seats, 8+in ICE etc., though I think the JCTrailhawk's Panoramic sunroof wins hands down compared to the G-4s tiny one. The JCTrailhawk has better off-road reputation (since its a Jeep and JCTrailhawk is a special off-road mod), but G-4, as Rexton, has some pretty impressive off-road chops too, reading and watching its reviews from other markets such as the UK. The G-4 is HUGE, however, compared to the JCTrailhawk, so it should set up an interesting comparison.

Interior might not be to everyone's taste, but for me it looks like best in segment! Very handsome looking exterior and classy interior! If this remains reliable in the long term, many XUV owners might upgrade to this.

Certainly a worthy upgrade to XUV.

Interior looks interesting, need to check the quality of materials used.

Pricing is critical for it to be a success, if it offers good value like the XUV from it's initial launch days, this will be a success for Mahindra in the 20L segment. Around 26-30L OTR is a good pricing

I dont know if anyone else feels the same , isnt this looking like a love child of S Cross and the Scorpio ? The front 3 quarters just reminds you of the S cross X Scorpio .

Looks like a well built and decently equipped car. Mahindra needs to do two things right.

One, price it well. And that in my opinion should be exactly where the XUV500 ends. So OTR should be somewhere in the region of 23-25 lakhs. Any higher and there are just no volumes. Tiguan, Tucson and Kodiaq combined together do not sell more than 450-500 units a month. Even the Endy does not do more than 600-700 per month. The only exception is the Fortuner. And Mahindra needs to under cut all of these by a good margin to make any serious inroads.
Also, just down the line Tata is going to launch the H7X, which is supposed to be slightly higher than the Harrier, so around 25-26 must be its price band. Mahindra needs to cover for this as well. End of the day, there is no ssangyong badging and even if there was it does not bring any credibility in India. So people would expect tremendous value from Mahindra and Tata. And more so in premium segments.

And secondly Mahindra needs to get the service aspect of this car right. Many Rexton owners had complained that Mahindra service centres did not necessarily look like they had complete knowledge of the car, which is understandable considering it was a ssangyong. But not this time around. People would be buying a Mahindra and the service centres would have no where to hide when it comes to resolving issues.

rear vehicle name badge reminds me of Wedding Couples name outside hall (fontwise and size wise)

If the pricing is true and is even in the same ballpark, this is doomed to be a failure. I dont think Mahindra has the brand cachet to sell anything at that price.

Also, what with the huge "Alturus G4" badging at the back. Couldn't they find bigger lettering. Its cheesy and "me too" but then again, subtlety is lost on Mahindra.

Should be a huge car. Hope Mahindra succeed since the segment they are playing is small sized but has great cars. The thing in that segment is that you get good features on all the cars. All have 3 rows. So very difficult to differentiate. Its great that they are launching a car with everything unlike Tata.

Dunno if it's common knowledge, but the Rexton always used to be the previous generation Mercedes ML. Not too sure about this one, but can see some traits.

Cheapest Benz available? Might be.

Cheers

Don't like the camel colored stitched leather around the dash and the doors. That aside, looks great. With 30l ex showroom, I will have to pass owning one though.
