Is it just me or this plastic part looks godawful quality, especially the buttons. I hope this is just pre-production gremlins.

Maruti Baleno also had Altura (the station wagon version) and now M & M through their subsidiary will be reviving the name again as Alturas !!!

This is one Mahindra in which the interior looks better than the exteriors. From the pictures the interiors exude that feeling of quality and luxury. However the exteriors looks bland and in certain angles like the GLS.

Drive on,
Shibu.

That's because it has good genes.

Look familiar?

The interior took less of a beating when the donor ML/GL had the mandatory Ssangyong ugly stick thrashing.

Also tells that tooling cost for a new dash must be pretty high.

Cheers

Just penning down/summarizing few observations based on various posts and market reports:-

The UK reviews aren't very flattering btw. But, that could be because tastes differ from market to market. Found this bit quite funny (and sarcastic) :

"Does the Rexton appeal to the mainstream?

Should you buy one? For the road? For the family? No. Cheaper than the opposition it might be, but the seven-seat Kia Sorento is easily worth the premium you pay over the price of the Ssanger. However, it’s worth mentioning that Ssangyong has apparently earned a decent reputation in agricultural circles, and – in a mud-caked equation – it’s a different story."

They weren't impressed simply for one reason : Pricing, guess the cars cheaper than the Rexton in UK? Land Rover Discovery (few variants), Honda CRV 2.0 Hybrid(181Bhp), even the loaded Volvo XC40 T4 is cheaper :Shockked:

One of the Australian review was much more forgiving, I don't think its as bad as they say, it is just compared with much more premium car thanks to its pricing! Comparing it to its Indian rivals like Isuzu, Fortuner will give it better outcome.

The UK/Europe market doesnot prefer much of ladder frame bulky SUV's. It's more to do with tastes/preferences than the actual car.

Got an advertisement mail from M&M. Booking amount mentioned is Rs 50000.

Yeah not a lot of positive reviews for it. Obviously looking at the speculated price, this vehicle is not going to disrupt the market in any which ways.

It's hard to compete against likes of Ford Endeavour and Fortuner at this price point. If it was probably 10 Lakhs(OTR) cheaper than those, then maybe it would have had a chance.

Just the interiors alone is not enough for it to compete against those vehicle's (which have good interiors too btw).

Wow! Those first youtube reviews above do not sound very exciting at all, especially when they talk about ride quality and handling. Even though outside my budget, I was secretly hoping for better reviews.

The ACI review is out and sounds promising in the Indian context. If priced right it could ruffle a few feathers.

Zigwheels review is also bit of a mixed bag - https://www.zigwheels.com/reviews-ad...-review/32365/

Basically, nobody is saying, close your eyes, go ahead and buy it.

Wonder how Mahindra will price it based on the first few reviews.

I saw all the Mahindra car reviews of that Motorbeam guy, guess what, he hates them all! He also praises Tata cars like they were God sent blessing for our market lol: Is team-bhp review in the making?

The big question is the price. How much is the Alturas going to undercut the big boys T-Fort and the Endy. Actually the T-Fort is pretty much unshakable.

It may not seem fair to Mahindra, but if the Alturas does not sort of create a new segment for itself from the big 2, then it will struggle to stay relevant in the market. For someone who is spending 30 lakhs upwards a price difference of 2-4 lakhs do not matter, so the Alturas cannot be just cheaper by this kind of a range. It has be do something like what Jeep did with the compass. Literally create a new segment.

But im guessing its all too late to discuss and contemplate, since Mahindra have brought in only the auto variants which are fully loaded so expect the pricing to be in the same range as the big 2. Mahindra can only hope to draw customers with the standard AT and better equipment at a slightly lower price.
