Re: Peugeot 208 facelift caught testing in India

I hope PSA will get their things sorted out in India this time. They should launch an SUV first going by the current trends. I’m more exited to see how they are gonna make use of the famous brand ‘Ambassador’.

Re: Peugeot 208 facelift caught testing in India

What they need is a compact SUV. It's well known that most Indians have a bias towards suvs as shown by the sales figures of the hector, seltos etc. and the big reception the compass received during launch ( 30k bookings if i remember correctly ).
They need to enter India via an suv between the 10-20 lac mark like Kia, where the profit margins are much higher than in the under 10 lac segment.

Kia is an unknown brand and contrary to some posts i saw here, I'm pretty sure the majority of the population do not know that they and hyundai are the same group ( i know a couple of seltos owners and none of them knew that ), so if unknown companies like mg and kia can be successful via the suv route I cannot find a reason why Peugeot also cannot do the same.

Peugeot is not totally unknown in India. After market diesel engines for Gypsy were mostly from them "peugeot tud5" and if I am not wrong this would be the third attempt by them to enter India.

So were Kia and MG. I think in todays market,it may not matter if you have a legacy or not. Ford, G.M and even VW did not manage to get the right market share even after years. But relatively less known companies like MG and Kia have come in, made the right product choices and also spent on marketing in the right way. So even the PSA group who are going to be launching the Citroen brand in India will be and should be aware of this.

To be clear, the cars in Chennai are not being tested with an immediate intention of an India launch. Outsourced development of certain software for PSA cars is being done which uses there cars as a test bed for routine qa. This will be expected to continue as long as this project/contract is active. This testing would require a fair variety of models of cars, and I would not read too much into the Brands and models being tested here and their readiness for an India launch.

Am pretty sure that PSA is not bringing P208 to India though brand may be entering through different product. What these spy pictures show is a 208 but used as a mule vehicle to test the upcoming Citroen CC21.

P.S - I had the chance of driving one of these vehicles. Except the body and some components all are prototype components of new CC21. Even the engine is not of 208.

Also @greenhorn, these cars are not for that purpose.
The outsourced development is mainly focusing on Indian designed new platform which may be global.

Re: Psychological effect of 100 bucks a liter | Do sky high petrol prices make you drive lesser?

Haven't been driving much. Did a drive to get my daughter vaccinated to Apollo Heart Centre Greams Road and another today to TCS Thoraipakkam to get my son and daughter in law vaccinated. Roads are deserted and very pleasant to drive. Also saw two test mules parked in TCS Thoraipakkam underground car park today: wondering what brand they're; they don't look Tata'ish, more like some quirky French from the design of the headlamps and tail lamps. Any idea, friends?
