And strangely that's been a trend among all the major mass market manufacturers, except for FORD(Ecosport has it from TREND+). Wonder why? Is it that premium a feature? While everyone talks about safety and is making dual airbags/ABS standard right from base trim, why are they omitting this small but really important feature?

Earlier people who cared about safety had to push their budget to top trims to get airbags & ABS . Now although these are available in the base trim, people will still have to go for top trim if they need this simple(but really useful) feature

I have a 8.5 year old entry level hatchback (Spark) which has rear wash+wiper, two reverse lamps, adjustable rear head rests, 60:40 split rear seat etc. Now a days I do not see all these features even in cars that costs >10L.

The pics don't do any justice. The car looks extremely lickable (:P) in person.

Probably that's one of the reasons why GM couldn't compete in India? I have a 8 year old Beat. It has all the features mentioned by you, plus Auto-climate control and a pressed steel rim which looks like alloys.

I would disagree to that. Features(or cost of providing them) can't be the reason GM left, rather the chinese products(SAIL/Enjoy etc) which were dumped here and got rejected by the market. Post BEAT if they had brought in other global products things might have been different. Back then they did enjoy a good novelty when BEAT, OPTRA etc were in the stable.

About features even the Estilo had rear wash/wipe, adjustable headrest, ABS back in 2010 itself. So features were there from almost every manufacturer, not just GM.

End of OT from my side.

Surprised to find the tank capacity go down in the new i20 by 5 litres. The brochure states the tank capacity as 40 litres compared to mine (2017 Asta) which was 45L.

By the way, is a review underway?

Just checked out the i20 and was surprised to see the CVT option on the pricelist. Test drive vehicles are slated to arrive next week according to the dealership.

The CVT is available with the Magna Executive and Asta trims with the Magna CVT starting at 7.05 lakhs.

Re: Hyundai Elite i20 Facelift, now launched at Rs 5.35 lakhs

Just after the launching of the faceliftd Creta, Hyundai has launched the i20 CVT along with the 1.2L petrol engine. It is priced between Rs 7.04 lakh and Rs 8.16 lakh for the Magna and Asta variants respectively (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Re: Hyundai Elite i20 Facelift, now launched at Rs 5.35 lakhs

I'm glad Hyundai decided to launch the i20 CVT in the Asta trim but I cannot fathom paying 9.2 for a 1.2L Petrol hatch specially when I have owned the first generation i20 Asta purchased at 6.10 Lakhs on-road.

The i20 has kept on getting pricier with every update and yet it sells like hot cakes but for a buyer like me I would rather spend these funds on a Freestyle and drive a manual or would by a Polo GT atleast I would be getting a 1.2 TSi motor and that brilliant DSG box.

9.2L for a 'premium' hatchback missing the following key features:

Rear wash & wipe
Hatch space luggage lamp
Height adjustable seat belt
No leather (steering/gear knob/handbrake)
Adjustable rear headrest
Driver window auto up/down

Right opportunity for Ford to plonk the 1.5 Engine + 6 speed TC unit from Ecosport into the Freestyle Titanium+ edition & price it below 8.99 on road.

That's cost cutting at it's best.
Hyundai initially pampers the customers a lot by giving in all the features on the top end including the petty ones but with every update they start throwing them out. The first generation i20 had all of them in almost 40% lesser price.

Regarding Freestyle, I guess even the 1.2 Dragon would be good enough. The 1.5L Engine would result in an higher price tag. The current Figo 1.5DCT is 9.2 lakhs on-road. In the budget scenario, Grand i10 & Micra CVT offers the best value I guess!

Gi10 AT is not available in the top trim and compromises have to be made either on the transmission or features level if one wants to buy the same.
Micra CVT I guess is a fringe player not affecting the market to any extent.

Is a sanely priced top trim AT hatch with basic features (not bling gizmos) too much to ask for? My almost decade old i10 AT has rear wash / wipe, hatch light, leather trim on steering/handbrake/gear, and adjustable rear headrest (plus an electronic sunroof) - cost 5.65 L on road !
