Hey I got this off my neighbour who works with GM.
After hearing loads of customers criticising their sluggish engines, GM has finally woken up and is planning to launch a supercharged version of the SRV. They are currently displaying the vehicle at the Autocar Expo at BKC.
The supercharger + plumbing etc will cost Rs.1.5 lakh and will be offered as an option at the dealership level. It's also compatible with Optra 1.6. I think therefore Aveo 1.6 is also compatible but I'm not sure.
No dyno figures yet, but the GM engineers are calculating 150 bhp and 0-100 in under 9 seconds. That's pretty good for a car that will cost less than 10 lakhs.
As of now GM is only displaying one car to guage consumer feedback. Based on that, they will then decide whether it's feasible to launch the upgrade.

That's real good news. Finally the SRV will pump out the kind of performance it's appearance only hints at.

What would be the total price of the car now? I think with supercharging this car will be a craze if costs between 7.0 - 8.0 lakhs. More than that, there wouldn't be many takers. It's still a hatch man....
If Aveo is supercharged, it will give petrol Fiestas and Vernas a run for their money if rightly priced and it already has better looks than both.

high time they did this. that car really needs to sell. such a sexy car & not one on the road to behold. what a shame !!:)
Good news! Do they also do some suspension work to suit the power and the torque range that the supercharged engine will put out?

150 bhp , in a 1.2 tonne car and still 9 secs to a ton ? nah ...not too impressive , 7.5 would have been good , 6.5 would have been great , 2.5 would have been ideal , if it had been 1.5 I'll definetely consider it as an option , a ton in 1 sec , I will buy it lol:
slightly off-topic but did u check out the body kits available on the srv at the dealer level. They look awesome considering that it's offered by the manufacturer and not by a private tuner/designer.
Forget the engine.... first do something about that gearbox... its absolutely mars the overall driving experience!
Just got back from the ACI Performance Show 2006, where Viper, Sam & I checked out the Supercharged SRV.
Not bad. Had a good laugh at the brakes. The rest of the car is bog stock though, & has some exterior mods. Shall examine & give more detail tomorrow, didn't know everybody was sooooo interested. Shall post some pics as well if nobody else does it - didn't take my camera today.
150bhp under 10L now we are talking .... i just hope this actually makes it to the market and doesn't die on the drawing board.

elf, can you verify that this is indeed GM India that is thinking about it rather than just an over-enthu dealer that may offer it.
