Toyota Electrified Vehicles @ Auto Expo 2018

Big shoutout to Eddy for shooting these pictures & his coverage of the Auto Expo. Thanks for sharing, man!

Toyota has been stressing on the development of the electrified vehicles for a long time now. The company aims to sell more than 5.5 million Electrified Vehicles including 1 million zero-emission vehicles per year by 2030. Toyota uses the term 'Electrified Vehicles' and not Electric Vehicles (EVs). There's a difference between the two of them.

For Toyota, EVs are just one type of Electrified Vehicles and they would like to be present in the full spectrum of Electrified Vehicles products, that includes:
  • Hybrid Vehicles (HV)
  • Plugged in Hybrid Vehicles (PHV)
  • Electric Vehicles (EV)
  • Fuel Cell Vehicles (FCV)
Toyota had invited Team-BHP for the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show where they showcased a variety of their electrified vehicles (related thread). Even at the Auto Expo 2018, they had a separate section of electrified vehicles:

A big thanks to .anshuman for this walkaround video of the Toyota electrified vehicles section:

Toyota's concept of Fuel Cell Vehicles (FCV) has three steps in it. The first one is the generation of electricity. Apart from the hydrogen tank in the FCV car, the vehicle can also generate electricity directly from the hydrogen stored outside the vehicle making it a stable source of electric power for use:
Toyota Electrified Vehicles @ Auto Expo 2018-2.jpg

The second step in this concept is the sharing of generated power. When the car is not in use, it will be able to share its power generation capabilities with communities which are a part of the local infrastructure:
Toyota Electrified Vehicles @ Auto Expo 2018-3.jpg

The car's fuel cell stack can be reused as electricity generating device and can be put to different uses:

Re: Toyota Electrified Vehicles @ Auto Expo 2018

Toyota was the first manufacturer to introduce the Plug-in Hybrid technology (PHV). At the auto expo, the second-generation Toyota Prius PHV was displayed:

The car is identical to the traditional hybrid Prius on the outside:
Toyota Electrified Vehicles @ Auto Expo 2018-b-7.jpg

The main power source for the traditional hybrid is the internal combustion engine while the battery powered electric motor is the main power source for the PHV:

The brake lamp and the lip spoiler are integrated:

Even though the electric motor is the main power source, the car does have an internal combustion engine:

In the 2017 model, the all-electric driving range is double of the previous generation model:

The dashboard gets a vertical layout with a large display on the center console:

The all black doorpads are bland:

The steering wheel is carried forward from the normal Prius:

The power button and other controls are placed on the right:
Toyota Electrified Vehicles @ Auto Expo 2018-b-27.jpg

The plug-in hybrid version gets this large touchscreen system for the operation of various functions of the vehicle:

The gear shift knob is finished in blue. The car has 3 driving modes and 4 powertrain modes:

There is quite a bit of piano black used on the dashboard. The glovebox has limited space:

A look at the roof console for cabin lights:

The rear bench is quite comfortable. Here's a look at the maximum and minimum legroom at the rear seat:

The rear seats are super comfortable:

The boot is long, but not deep enough. It even gets a luggage shade:

You can find the powertrain details on this sheet:

Re: Toyota Electrified Vehicles @ Auto Expo 2018

The earlier mentioned conceptual community using the FCVs has been designed with this FCV Plus in mind. The full-size car was also displayed at the stall:

The specification sheet showed the basic principles intended for the car rather than the technical terms:
Toyota Electrified Vehicles @ Auto Expo 2018-c-2.jpg

The fuel cell stack is mounted in between the front tyres:
Toyota Electrified Vehicles @ Auto Expo 2018-c-21.jpg

The car's still a sub-4m :

The hydrogen tank is placed at the rear:
Toyota Electrified Vehicles @ Auto Expo 2018-c-5.jpg

A little too sleek headlamp console:
Toyota Electrified Vehicles @ Auto Expo 2018-c-24.jpg

The front wheels are exposed unlike the rear ones:
Toyota Electrified Vehicles @ Auto Expo 2018-c-19.jpg

The rear wheels can be docked in the charging station for wireless sharing of electricity (as per the concept):

A clean underbody throughout:

There is no dashboard on this concept:

The driver gets a steering wheel with power and hazard buttons mounted on it:
Toyota Electrified Vehicles @ Auto Expo 2018-c-15.jpg

The car also gets seats for 2 passengers at the back:

Re: Toyota Electrified Vehicles @ Auto Expo 2018

The i-Road concept from Toyota was introduced at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show:
Toyota Electrified Vehicles @ Auto Expo 2018-d-11.jpg

The i-Road has an all-electric powertrain and features a lithium ion battery that powers 2 electric motors mounted within the front wheels. The front wheels also have an active lean system that balances the vehicle on turns:
Toyota Electrified Vehicles @ Auto Expo 2018-d-14.jpg

The concept is a single person vehicle and has been created to improve personal mobility for inner city commutes:
Toyota Electrified Vehicles @ Auto Expo 2018-d-12.jpg

The i-Road has a driving range of over 50 km and can be fully charged from a conventional household power socket within 3 hours:
Toyota Electrified Vehicles @ Auto Expo 2018-d-10.jpg

The front wheels are equipped with disc brakes:

A close look at the electric motor is mounted on the front wheel:

The driver cabin:

The gear positions are activated by buttons:
Toyota Electrified Vehicles @ Auto Expo 2018-d-3.jpg

A look at the footwell. The Park gear seems to have been placed just above the dead pedal:
Toyota Electrified Vehicles @ Auto Expo 2018-d-5.jpg

Pretty basic driver seat:

You have to clip-on the window to close it :
Toyota Electrified Vehicles @ Auto Expo 2018-d-7.jpg

The glass area is huge!

Here's a look at the specifications sheet:
Toyota Electrified Vehicles @ Auto Expo 2018-d-9.jpg

Toyota also displayed the concept of community networking called as the Ha:mo. Ha:mo stands for Harmonious Mobility Network and has been designed to provide last mile mobility:
Toyota Electrified Vehicles @ Auto Expo 2018-e-2.jpg

The Ha:mo is a part of EV car sharing option which will be connecting people to the public transportation system and further to the destination:
Toyota Electrified Vehicles @ Auto Expo 2018-e-1.jpg

There's nothing fancy here as the vehicle is meant for sharing:

The open EV will provide mobility to a single passenger:

Re: Toyota Electrified Vehicles @ Auto Expo 2018

Thank you for the data and the photos. This is in my view the best thread to emerge from the Auto 2018 show - a glimpse into the future. I love that I-Road one man buggy. If I live to 85 that could be my go anywhere sexy wheel chair.
