The one shown here is the Japanese parent of our current gen Wagon R. The one shown in the first post is entirely different from this.

I came across these photos on a regional language website, original pictures are from www.rushlane.com. The vehicle has a HR-26 registration number.

Re: New Maruti caught testing! Is this the next-gen Alto?

Looking at the spy pics I feel that the design of the new car resembles to the 6th generation (HA24) Alto.

The front fascia and the rear will feature new age design but somewhere the side profile / door lines is similar to the Japanese Alto.

Image attached for reference.

Re: New Maruti caught testing! Is this the next-gen Alto?

Maruti has not revealed the soon-to-be-launched Ciaz facelift and Ertiga even in the recently concluded Delhi auto expo. Then, how can someone expect Maruti to do the testing of new models on Indian roads without camouflages!

Excerpts form the TOI interview with the Senior Executive Director (Maruti Suzuki )

- Next Gen ALTO will be BS VI compliant before the 2020 deadline ( all model in sequential introduction)

- Alto will not go electric

- Maruti Suzuki's EV in 2020 will be a bigger car ( a C/SUV?)

The source article says :

The government has set a deadline to be selling only electric cars in India by 2030, in another push for a cleaner environment -- at a time when the country is grappling with toxic levels of pollution in most of its cities.
Am I missing something or the reporter not aware about the Draft National Auto Policy released in February, where the government has gone silent on EVs by 2030.

Re: New Maruti caught testing! Is this the next-gen Alto?

New gen Alto spied again. Likely to be launched in 2019.

Quote:
After the new Maruti Alto was spied on test at Kufri near Shimla last month, it has now been spied again, wearing a different camouflage. The variant spied in Kufri, was wearing black and white camouflage. While the new one spied recently, is wearing all black camouflage.

Under heavy camouflage, the new Alto is slated to bear no resemblance to its current counterpart but bear a hint of similarity to the Ignis. The new generation Maruti Suzuki Alto will be based on Heartect platform. This is the same platform which is used by all new Maruti cars like Ignis, Swift, Dzire, Baleno, WagonR. New Alto will have higher ground clearance, a boxy shape and more spacious interiors. It will get larger wheels, projector headlamps with LED DRLs, LED tail lamps and rear parking sensors.

2019 Maruti Suzuki Alto will be lighter than its current generation model. It will meet Bharat NCAP safety norms. One of the reason to launch new gen Alto, is that the current Alto does not meet safety norms. And when the rule kicks in, Maruti will have to discontinue current Alto. This will result in huge sales loss, as Alto is the best selling car in India currently, registering sales of about 25k units a month.

Yes, it'll be lighter than current Alto.
