This Month's Autocar India says, "The initial batch of cars is likely to be all imports but sold at the domestic price, until the Chennai plant begins local production sometime in Feb."

BMW would be absorbing the cost of importing the CBUs!!

Intresting to hear...Made in Germany @ Indian Prices...
If my source is correct, the excise department let the first 160 cars which come as CBU, free of duty.
So, BMW isn't losing much!

No mention of 5 series in the article? According to ACI the 523i or 525i 525d and 530i are lined up for us...around the 40 lakh range.
Any news of when bookings for the same will begin?

Also; what about their dealerships? Navnit is one but they have a far-suburbs presence. Any other dealerships in the pipeline?

Bangalore has one. I think it is Navnit here too (long time since I traveled on Hosur road).

Same situation in Bangalore. Only dealership is far far south on Chennai Highway. Imagine someone living in Northern suburbs.

But BMW will have not more than 1 dealer per city for another few years so that they get enough business.

Merc's real strength is the dealership network. I have an experience of 3+ years with Auto Hangar in Mumbai, and honestly...have yet to come across such supreme levels of service anywhere else. The sales and service staff - both - are exceedingly capable and deliver wherever promised.

Selling premium cars is all about relationship building...BMW is gonna have to work hard. Very hard at training and maintainence of dealership practices.

OMG!! This is awesome news. BMW being rolled out in India is the best news I could except near new year. At 3 series for 25ish lacs is wayyyy better than a Camry for 28 lacs(with taxes and stuff I believe....still can't digest the fact that the Camry is 21 something lacs).

Are they launching the Ms?

Considering prices of BMW 3 series are around 36K dollars, I would have assumed the same pricing here too...but since its only an assembly unit, it will be sold at higher cost.

M's are going to be available against specific orders. They won't be producing them but will import them for customers.
