I saw this article and video as well. I just love that enthusiasm which he has kept alive even @ 88. Hopefully one day even I will get a chance to own Mercedes-Benz.
Hats off to this gentleman who made us to believe in our dreams as well.

re: Farmer goes from a bullock cart to a Mercedes B-Class

This certainly looks stage managed.

Firstly the video is an ad by Trans Car a dealer for Mercedes in Chennai. Their logo appears on the top right hand corner of the entire video to confirm this fact.

Secondly, every part of the video is in "Lights, Camera, Action" mode right down to the first scene where he is walking into the showroom and for every "take" thereafter too.

It looks like a good story "planted" in the press as a different sort of advert.

Well, for any good story to become popular, somebody has to back it up and bring it to the limelight, right? Otherwise, that story will only stay in the neighborhood. Of course, it's possible that somebody wanted to make use of the opportunity by 'helping' the story go public. You know, even the documentaries of animals we see in the TV channels are staged to some extent, right?

In any case, I don't want to appear to be stereotyping, but he doesn't look like a regular farmer you come across in Tamilnadu. He sounds fairly educated.

In today's age, the consumption of traditional media is going down everyday. Content curation is the buzzword in all marketing circles.

Looking at the video, it has very decent production quality, and would have been managed by the dealer with some support from Mercedes for sure.

As long as the story is true, I think it does its job well.

Sure it is stage managed as they have made an inspirational video of a farmer's dream to own a Mercedes.

Give it to the old man for his persistence and the desire to fulfil his dream. For a moment why don't you think this is a true story?

Two things we can learn from this episode:

1) Never give up on your dreams
2) Mercedes B-Class is still on sale!

Wow! A fantastic story of perseverance indeed.

I'm sure the dealership must have extended support, say, by way of alerting them of discounts and/or offers. I actually appreciate the fact that they made a nice little video to highlight the achievement.

re: Farmer goes from a bullock cart to a Mercedes B-Class

Superb video; regardless of whether it was staged or not. Perhaps the story is true (man wanting to buy a MB) and the dealer/MB sweetened the deal if he agreed to this.

After all, ads are meant to inspire and get us to aspire.

I was hoping the finale would be the man driving off himself but co-driver seat is good enough.

This farmer is a refreshing change from those that walk in with a sack of money, throw it at the SA and walk out with most expensive car they can buy.

Because when it is stage managed, actors do the roles, not farmers. And the story scripted by a good "story" writer.

They should have paid a bit more attention to the casting though.

A farmer with a pot belly gives the game away.

re: Farmer goes from a bullock cart to a Mercedes B-Class

If it was stage managed, why not an AMG? Why a lowly B class? All the dealership has done is taken a few shots of the delivery sign off and a quick interview of a family with a farming background deciding that they will go the Mercedes way. The entire film is amateur to say the least, and hence is NOT stage managed at all. None of them are actors, i am from that part of the country, and i can very easily sense what is acting and what is the real deal.

Seems pretty real to me. However for sure the dealer turned it into a quasi publicity event. No harm done though - its an inspiring story.

Thanks for sharing this video. Really motivating for me on a personal front.

You have no idea! While many would say farmers are not doing so well, those who own the land are actually quite wealthy. Quoting myself from my dealership thread:

These are not actors, but real life people there. When they say ''true story'' it means the true life of a person. There is no scripted true story!

A responsible company won't publish this as a true story in all their official social media handles unless it's real and not reel.

They might have fantasized the way they shot this real story to make it inspirational as well as promotional. But that doesn't take away anything from the 88 years of real life and his dreams.

Does your question arise because you associate farmer = farm labourer? May be he's not a farm labourer but a farm owner whom we call as a farmer. Job titles can be confusing 😀

I could see that an octogenarian is excited to buy his dream car and I'm sure that it will positively impact many people with dreams. We need such people and such advertising.
