2nd-gen Maruti Celerio launched at Rs. 4.99 lakh

Mod Note: Our 2021 Maruti Celerio Review has been taken live at this link. Please continue the discussion over on the new thread. Thanks!

According to a media report, Maruti could be planning to launch the next generation Celerio (codenamed: YNC) in the next 12-18 months.

The Maruti Celerio was launched in 2014. It received a mid-life facelift in 2017. The next generation Celerio is expected to be built to comply with the new crash safety regulations. Rumours suggest that it could be based on the Heartect platform.

At present, Maruti offers the Celerio with a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that produces 67 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 90 Nm of torque @ 3,500 rpm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT. The CNG variant of the Celerio comes with same engine but with a slightly lower output. It puts out 58 BHP and 78 Nm of torque.

Will this be positioned above the Future-S concept ?

Can we expect the K12 engine option to be offered in this, just like the Wagon-R ?

I think the Future-S concept *IS* the new Celerio.
Future-S doesnt look cheap enough to be the new Alto.

On an unrelated note, The new Alto 800 LXi (ac, Power Steering, not much else) costs 3.5 ex-showrooom Delhi.

Was shocked to find that out.

Future S or S Presso is a different car, mostly a replacement for the K10 Alto. Celerio is a separate model altogether.

To be strapped with a 1-litre engine, the compact car, code-named YNC, will likely replace the existing Celerio, which is now available with both 1-litre and 1.2-litre engines.

Doesn’t the car look a bit too long for a Celerio? Or is this the next gen Baleno by any chance? I thinks its time for the next gen Baleno as well. Wheels looks to be 15 inch or 16 inch as well.

No it's not, IMO.

This test mule has that tall boy design like Celerio and unlike Baleno.

Anyways, Celerio is overdue for upgrade for long.

The rear wipers dont look like the ones for Baleno IMO.

Baleno has the wipers within the rear glass panel and the picture above shows the wipers to be on the cars rear steel panel.

Also I dont think Maruti will be looking to bring in the next gen baleno right now given its still doing some decent numbers.

Should be similar to the new WagonR in dimensions. WagonR had a significant size increase over the earlier generation as well.

re: 2nd-gen Maruti Celerio launched at Rs. 4.99 lakh

Looks to me like the next gen Baleno looking at the wheels design and ORVMs and rear hatch shape. But instrument cluster looks too basic for a Baleno perhaps in Celerio's defence.

re: 2nd-gen Maruti Celerio launched at Rs. 4.99 lakh

I think Maruti can get away with retiring the Celerio nameplate.

It offers no advantage over the Wagon-R, and with the XL5 coming, this makes no sense. The cabbies will get a WagonR, and the uncles will get a XL5.

The next-generation Maruti Celerio will be launched in October this year. It will be based on the Wagon R platform and likely to come with two petrol engine options.
