Mod Note: Our Skoda Kodiaq Scout Report has been taken live at this link. Please continue the discussion over on the new thread. Thanks!

Skoda has announced that it will launch the Kodiaq Scout in India on September 30, 2019.

Skoda Kodiaq Scout launch on September 30, 2019-kodiaqscoutheaderms1920x730.jpg

The Kodiaq Scout is a more off-road focused version of the Kodiaq that is on sale in India at present. It is expected to get a more rugged exterior with black plastic cladding and bumpers with silver inserts on the lower edge. The Kodiaq Scout could be offered with 19-inch alloy wheels and roof rails and ORVMs finished in silver.

In terms of features, the Kodiaq Scout is likely to get a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment head-unit and a digital instrument cluster. It could get new dashboard trim and seat upholstery with Scout logos.

The Kodiaq Scout is expected to be powered by the same 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that powers the regular Kodiaq. It produces 148 BHP and 340 Nm of torque and is paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. The SUV is likely to be equipped with all-wheel drive and an off-road mode.

Lovely product but I dread to think how much more the Kodiaq will keep costing. Starting to get the Compass effect (on price).

Also, considering it essentially still remains a soft roader (unlike Endy / Fortuner), wonder whether people will bite the bait for a version where the enhancements are mostly cosmetic and don't add "significant" capability over the normal versions

Looks so artificial and after-market on an otherwise elegant design.

Good package otherwise though - but quite pointless as the Kodiaq's USP is being a refined monocoque vehicle amidst ladder on frame off-road biased competition.

Re: Skoda Kodiaq Scout launch on September 30, 2019

What Kodiaq needs a more powerful heart, that 148bhp unit isn't powerful enough for 40 big ones. What Skoda is trying here is to keep launching a newer version with cosmetic changes (silver color ORVM duh!) & hoping that it would push the sale.

When they have this engine available in higher tune, why not give it to people. They are losing customers to competitors, not to VW or Audis of the world.
But then, Skoda's approach & strategy has been pretty enigmatic from start. With the kind of products & success they have had in early 2000, they should have been a significant player in Indian market today. Look where they are, a marginal image of what they could have been.

Let's not beat Skoda to death here. It's completely VAG's decision to differentiate Skoda+VW versus Audi in India at least.

We Indians are rather naughty. Minute we see our neighbor's 44L exshowroom Audi Q3, we will point out that our 33L Kodiaq or Tiguan has the same 188/190 bhp tune .

Hence the diktat from VAG HO!

News link says Scout will be priced above L&K. Already L&K is way above Style. So this new one will be
Hoping to see the Red colour back in Kodiaq!!

Internationally Scout versions sit below L&K which has always been flagship variant for all Škoda Cars. Hoping it's in between Style and L&K accordingly, still find it over priced. But those black interiors. Hmm.

Re: Skoda Kodiaq Scout launch on September 30, 2019

Bit of a pointless launch, IMHO. No one buys the Kodiaq for offroading, and neither is it an SUV suited to the same. What the Kodiaq does a remarkably good job of is cruising on tarmac. That's why I wish Skoda gave it the higher tune diesel. Now, that would be a real upgrade to look forward to.

Hope it doesn't come with 19" rims! Those are just asking for trouble (stiffer ride, higher risk of tyre damage, expensive tyre replacement costs).

I hope they launch this with a dark interior shade. Preferably Black. I hope better sense prevails and manufacturers understand that a sea of Beige doesn't help in Indian conditions. It's a nightmare to maintain.

Yeah the higher tune diesel would have been really good. This variant now makes sense. They officially dropped the price of Style and changed that to Corporate.

Now there is a decent gap between Corporate and L&K and this would slot in between is my guess.

The corporate/Style lose out on virtual cockpit and 360 camera as the 2 main features vs the L&K. If the Scout gets both then it will be same as L&K price. But if it's just based on Style and with black interiors and silver bits then prices will be closer to Corporate.

I don't care much for the silver add on bits and the increased clearance but what I really really like is the all black cabin which is what the Scout gets world over.

Who's buying the Kodiaq now. It seems quite overpriced now with Harrier and MG Hector around even though they might not be in the same segment. Needs a drastic price cut to stay relevant.

Sorry, thats almost like saying a Seltos/Creta is irrelevant because there's a Brezza or a Nexon. Kodiaq is actually quite a good package in its price range/segment.

Simple: Those who can afford the additional 20+ lakhs over Harrier/Hector, who also value the level of refinement, engineering, dynamics and overall quality feel which are in another league compared to the other 2! But agree that it is overpriced by at least 7-8 lakhs for what it offers.

Re: Skoda Kodiaq Scout launch on September 30, 2019

Just looked at the specs. It's in between specs of Style and L&K. Pretty much based on style with black interiors, more silver bits inside and out.

It misses the virtual cockpit and 360 camera but gets TPMS and an additional off road button for hill descent control.

My guess is will be priced 50K hopefully not more above the Style. If it is more than that the L&K makes far more sense.
