Please tell me that faux plate is a made up one:Frustrati

I came here to appreciate looking at that half rear portion shown on the pic that looked sharp with tail lights on.

Guess I made a mistake passing by this thread only to notice that ugly looking on-the-face faux plate design.

I guess we are going to still see people going in for it because it’s Kia, who will surely load the car to its brim on features.

Well, Kia could achieve with Sonet what it failed to achieve with the Seltos- Dethroning it's Hyundai counterpart.

Well, with Creta, Hyundai had the advantage of having the newer car but with the Venue, I think Sonet will win hands down. Better brand perception of Kia among Indians and of course the mini-badass, devil quotient of the Sonet which would anyways attract more buyers than the "raised Santro" perception or the Venue. Kia TVC marketing team does a wonderful job.

PS: No offense to owners, I love the little Hyundai, specially in the diesel SX trim. Terrific value and an all round product.

Kia must hope there are no price overlaps between this and the Seltos or else the vampire teeth will pierce the heart and stop their heartbeat. :D

Going by how only the Venue SX and Creta E variants overlap, I'm assuming not alot of people would be jumping over from a fully loaded Venue to a basic no frills Creta. It would be safe to assume the case would be similar with the Sonet and Seltos.

A lot of people I know did exactly ditch their Venue purchase and converted it into a base/mid Creta and even Seltos HTE bookings. These compact suvs aren't really comfortable for the rear seat occupants for extended period of time. Infact the Youtube uploads this whole month has been on comparisons between top end Venue or base Creta for same price. :D

Sonet will definitely be priced slightly higher than Hyundai (basis what the sister firms did with Creta & Seltos). While the back of the SUV looks good, it is the front where i hope that Sonet is not a bit overdone, given how it was with Nissan Magnite and their DRLs. I will be actively looking for cars & suvs in Rs. 10-12 lacs bracket as my current Vento diesel needs to be replaced next year. Sonet & Venue will definitely be on the radar for me then.

Is this the same 1.5 engine that powers the Seltos, Creta and Verna?

Yes sir it will get the same 1.5 diesel as the Venue, Creta, Verna and Seltos albeit in a lower state of tune 100bhp power 240Nm torque. Petrol I am expecting 1.2L NA for the lower variants and 1.0L turbo for the higher variants with a manual, iMT and DCT.

Cheers

Hyundai family going after major cost cutting I see, won't be surprised if this also powers the new Tuscon with a higher state of tune.

Imo at clearly varying price bands there should be differences in engine output, not this 100 BHP. -115 BHP range their entire b & c range runs on

Sonet has to be priced from 6.9 Lakh. KIA should not get carried away with Seltos's success and price this too high. Sub 4m SUV is a hotly-contested space with lot of options.

Given that the Sonet and the Venue are almost the same cars with the same platform, engines, gearboxes etc, i would expect that the Sonet to be in the same territory as the Venue, may be just marginally higher with some extra features thrown in to confuse the customers just a little bit and also to justify the premium over the Venue. There is no way that the Sonet is going to be significantly cheaper than the Venue.

Any chance that this will come with a diesel iMT transmission?

Nope. The iMT for now will only do duty on the 1.0L Turbo Petrol as it does in the Venue. However I have heard from a few people that the 1.5L Diesel will be given with the option of a 6 speed TC box.
