Wow.

I might be going against the tide here, but I find that dashboard far better looking than the Venue's. The dash on the Hyundai, to me, just doesn't look premium enough compared to a, say, Grand i10 Nios.

I am with you on this!
The Kia's dashboard has way more flair to it and looks more premium when compared to Venue's simple and rather boring interiors (Subjective).
The only thing I absolutely hate in the Sonet's cabin is the stupid digital speedometer which just looks downright C-H-E-A-P!
And as for the ugly blank space around the head unit in lower trims, it's the problem with most of the modern cars which come with large screens.

The base variants interiors look horrible! The AC controls right at the centre of the dash is just so wrong from all angles. Also, given the ridiculous placement, why couldnt they have at least provided the AC controls in a different design, like the ones you see in Grand i10 etc, which look so much more upmarket, than these regular ones.

And even the audio unit on that extended black slab is an absolute eyesore! It looks like Kia decided that their interior design language is going to be this purely from a top end variant and just didnt care how it would look on the base variants. I think Sonet has probably the worst interior design amongst the others in the under 4m SUV segment. The Nexon and Ecosport have much better designs.

Agree with you totally.
The problem is Kia wants to put that large central slab right next to the instrument panel. For the top models, this works beautifully, as the screen is right in your line of sight, and the rear passengers can see it too.

But in the base variants, it looks ungainly and just sad.

Here's the Seltos base model

Agree, However one can easily upgrade to a very good touch screen one for around 15k

[*]1.2 NA Petrol & 1.5 Diesel will be available in Tech Line Trim only.[*]1.0 Turbo Petrol will be exclusive to the GT Line Trim.[*]iMT which like Venue will be only available on 1.0 Turbo Petrol.[*]DCT will be exclusive to the 1.0 Turbo Petrol.

Sonet will share similar variant nomenclature with its sibling Hyundai Venue.

GTK = Venue S
GTX = Venue SX
GTX+ = Venue SX(O)

HTE = Venue E
HTK= Venue S
HTX = Venue SX
HTX+ = Venue SX(O)

One difference I see in the Sonet is the availability of the 1.2L petrol in higher variants like HTX (availability in HTX+ will have to be seen since even Seltos doesn't get a petrol 1.5L HTX+ variant) since the 1.2L petrol in the Venue is only available till the S and S+ variants( equivalent HTK in Sonet).
Pricing will be crucial in the case of Sonet. It will be nice if the Sonet gets the 1.0L turbo DCT in GTX+ trim, Venue completely missing out on the SX(O).

But im not so sure if one can actually upgrade to a different HU, since the design doesnt seem to have a separate placement for a HU and the whole thing is just a big slab in one piece.

These days the android touch screen systems are very thin actually. They come with a new face-plate so it looks decently integrated. See example below for seltos which has a similar style placement:

Wasn't there a speculation of a Diesel Automatic being launched?? The Segment currently doesn't have a proper diesel automatic (There are a few AMT though). If they launch the Sonet with an Diesel Auto it will the USP of the product. Hope they launch with one and price it well. please:

I am not a fan of the interiors in both the Seltos and Sonet. Somehow Kia seems to be obsessed with this big slab like screen and they look ugly to me. How I wish we could get the Seltos/Sonet exteriors with the Creta/Venue interior!!Also, a flaw (if I can call it that) with the design is that it looks palatable only in the top end.

I hope Kia offers the top end version with DCT similar to Seltos. A TC AT with the diesel mill would definitely let the cat among pigeons.

I hate the completely digital (Casio style instrument cluster). They should instead give a full colour screen with different themes to choose for the instrument cluster so that enthusiasts can atleast set the analog dial theme.
From pics the instrument cluster of Sonet looks somewhat like cheaper Triber's.

More Of KIA SONET!

Screen grab from Kia official FB page.

Are they going to offer the same color choices as the Seltos? I hate that about Hyundai. Makes the Creta look like a Venue at times. But luckily the Sonet doesn't seem to be sharing the Seltos looks.

Is this kind of a official release?

Seems to be a picture of the Sonet concept, going by the ORVMs' shape and Velar like door handles.
