Re: Scoop! Toyota Innova Crysta BS6 bookings open

I had posted elsewhere on this forum the same but posting again.

Toyota 2.4 and 2.8 Diesels are Euro6 ready. Prado, Fortuner, Hilux already comes with DPF and SCR since their launch where Euro6 norms are followed. They are also sold without these emission control additions where it is not required legally.

Toyota sells the old 3.0 Prado in India is because in Japan where all Prados they make two variants - Euro6 variant and Euro3 variant. All Euro 6 Prados come with 2.8 GDFTV with DPF and SCR. Infact the 2.8GDFTV engine debuted in the Prado in 2015 and trickled down to lesser Toyotas. Euro 3 Prados come with the old 3.0KDFTV engine and in India and other parts of the world where Euro 6 norms do not apply they sell this variant. So, when the Euro 6 norms come into effect in India as BS6 in 2020 Toyota will start selling the 2.8 Prado - 5 years after this variant was launched internationally.

The GDFTV series engine is Euro 6 ready, but one cannot convert the existing Euro3 versions to Euro6 outside of the factory (technically feasible but practically impossible due to cost and even if one does it without Govt approval it still is BS4 on paper). Let us see how Toyota goes about implementing the BS6 here whether they will use the existing Euro 6 emission control system or something cheaper to run without adblue keeping their fleet customers in mind.

For emissions complaince modern Diesels need -->
  1. Euro/Bharat 3 - Exhaust gas Recirculation (EGR)+Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC)
  2. Euro 5 (India skipped from Euro 3 to 6) - EGR+DOC+Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF)
  3. Euro/Bharat 6 - EGR+DOC+DPF+Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) or Nox Adsorber (NoxTrap)

Expect the price to increase by minimum 2 lakhs if the BS6 Fortuners and Innovas come with the same kit as found on the Euro 6 versions of these models.

Those who are worried about DPF regen not happening on their BS6 Toyotas due to their usage conditions can rest easy because a forced regen can be done manually by the dealer using GTS or self using Scangauge.

Historically Toyota have been very greedy and more so off late. The dealers I spoke to have said a minimum of Rs. 75000 to a Lakh will be the difference. But let us wait and watch what surprises Toyota shall give us all.

If I understand correctly adding DPF and SCR to existing engines(Which already have provision) would suffice to make 2.4 and 2.8 BS6? Are these going to be just plug and play?

Yes (no internal changes necessary), but to go along with it there will be hardware changes in the electronics - addition of egt and differential pressure sensors injector, new exhaust manifold - place for a new fuel injector, fuel injection system - new rail line and another injector on exhaust manifold and of course a new exhaust system and the ad blue circuit with tank lines pump and injectors. This is the difference between the Euro3 Gdftv and Euro6 Gdftv engines as of now.

Full page ad in the Tuimes today announcing a "Celebratory Offer" with "Limited Period pricing" of BS6 Innovas. See bottom left of the image below. Any idea what the prices are?

I think the impending Launch of Kia Carnival is finally giving Toyota the jitters. Never seen them come up with an offer on a new launch.

This is good news for my father. He likes this van but his monthly running is not more than 500km. All that remains to be seen is how and where have they put the CNG tank. The way the seats are placed, i suppose one of the last row seats will be gone to make way for the tank similar to the Audi Q7 where you can have all the seats and no spare tyre or spare tyre and one seat gone.

Yes, a CNG would also be a huge blessing for those who live in Delhi NCR, where diesel cars can only run for 10 years, and the petrol variant has scary fuel efficiency figures. Regarding the placement of the CNG tank, I believe it's gonna be similar to the ertiga CNG, where they have put the CNG cylinder behind the last row of seats under a casing made of plastic/cardboard/ply and covered it with fabric.

Current pricing is introductory pricing only, they plan to raise these further

A fellow member rightly corrected on LC thread that Toyota has made space for Innova/ Fortuner to replace Prado/ LC here in India

A friend of mine who is a small time real estate guy went to book Crysta and was ready to pay full amount same day for 2.8. Showroom guys literally scoffed at him and said no 2.8. Even for 2.4L, you need to pay 2 lakhs extra since its bs6 price. He came back and we tapped into second hand market. Used Innova Crysta and even older innova's are now like land. Prices have appreciated. Used Innova's are now out of reach :-/
