Tata Motors made 4 global unveils, a pre-production preview and a commercial launch at the Auto Expo. The company's pavilion is spread across 6,000 sq. m and divided into 4 thematic zones - Live, Play, Move and Build Zone. The pavilion also features a track at the top on which the Nexon EV can be test driven.

Here's a look at the pavilion:

Tata Motors brought back an old nameplate at the Auto Expo with this electric vehicle concept called the Sierra EV Concept. The vehicle is based on a stretched version of the HBX platform.

The concept take design cues from the old Sierra and some newer cars from the Tata stable:


Boxy design and flared wheel arches give the Sierra EV Concept a muscular appearance:


Blackened A-Pillar, flush fitting handles for the front doors and fixed glass between the B & C-Pillars:


Like the Harrier, the DRLs are located just below the bonnet while the headlamps are placed on the bumper:


Dual-tone bumper with the letters Sierra embossed on the black portion. Notice the silver inserts where the skid plate would be:


LED light strip keeps changing colour:

Unlike the old Sierra, the Concept gets a single sliding door at the rear:

Earlier this month, Tata launched the Nexon EV in India. The company has displayed the car at the Auto Expo as well. The car has a 30.2 kWh lithium-ion battery that powers an electric motor, which has an output of 127 BHP and 245 Nm. The company claims that the car can do a 0-100 km/h sprint in 9.9 seconds.

The Nexon EV is available in three colour options - Signature Teal Blue, Moonlit Silver and Glacier White. Light blue markings all over the body of the car indicate that this car runs on electricity:


Front end is shared with the Nexon facelift. Notice the blue EV badge on the front grille:

Dual-tone alloy wheels are identical in design to the regular Nexon. The blue marking is the only distinguishing feature:

Gear selector is a rotary knob, much like the drive mode selector in other Tata cars. There is a storage space in place of the traditional gear knob ahead of the gear selector. Like the exterior of the car, there are blue marking on the inside as well. Notice the blue border around the storage space:


Instrument cluster consists of an analogue speedometer, a digital tachometer and an MID. There is a blue border around the instrument cluster:

The Nexon EV has fast charging capability and can be charged to 80% of its capacity using a DC fast charger in 1 hour. Using a standard AC charger, it takes 8-9 hours to charge to 100%. ARAI certified range = 312 km on a single charge:


Firing up the engine of cars with internal combustion engines is not allowed at events such as the Auto Expo. However, since the Nexon EV runs on electricity, it can not only be started, but also driven. Tata Motors built a track on top of its pavilion for the car to be driven on:

Tata Motors has launched the Harrier 2020 at the Auto Expo. The SUV gets a more powerful engine and an automatic gearbox. Prices start from Rs. 13.69 lakh for the manual version and Rs. 16.25 lakh for the automatic version. The SUV is now available with new top-of-the-line XZ+/XZA+ trim variants. Bookings are open and the car would be available at dealerships later this month.

On the outside, the refreshed Harrier is identical in looks to the outgoing car:


Changes include new dual-tone, diamond cut 17-inch alloy wheels in the same design seen below. However the below show car had 18 inches:


...and reshaped ORVMs:


This Calypso Red colour is new:


There are many small changes on the inside. You get a panoramic sunroof and an auto-dimming IRVM:


All black dashboard seen here is only going to be available on the Dark edition. The other variants will continue with the brown leather and wood panelling:

Users had complained that the USB and Aux-in ports were difficult to access in the Harrier. Tata Motors claims to have modified these ports now to make them more accesible:


Coming to mechanical changes, the Harrier gets a bump in power. The 2.0L Kryotec engine produces 168 BHP:


The engine is called the Kryotec170 Diesel, the engine complies with BS6 emission norms:


6-speed automatic transmission is a new addition. It will be available in three variants - XMA, XZA & XZA+:

The Gravitas is a 6 / 7-seater version of the Harrier. It is scheduled to be launched in H1 FY2021.

The car displayed was a pre-production unit with a 6-seater configuration:


Front end is identical to the Harrier:


Only when viewed from the side is the difference obvious. The Gravitas is longer as it has to accomodate the additional seats:


Unlike the Harrier, the roofline does not slope downwards. The Gravitas also gets roofrails and redesigned tail lights:


18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels shod with 235/60 section rubber. Disc brakes at the rear as well:


Just like the Harrier, a lion is engraved on the headlight projectors:


A lion family is depicted by markings on the rear windshield:

The Tata Altroz hatchback was awarded a 5-Star safety rating by Global NCAP. Tata Motors has taken this opportunity to display the construction and safety features and properties of the car.

Tata Motors has unveiled the Hexa Safari Edition at the Auto Expo. The car is powered by a BS6 compliant engine.

The Hexa Safari Edition is based on the Hexa 4x4. The car gets black bits instead of the chrome seen on the regular Hexa. Chrome strip around the grille is replaced by glossy black, while matte black replaces glossy black on the honeycomb mesh detailing:


Exhaust tips are the only place where chrome is seen on the exterior:


The car on display had featured a metallic forest green shade, black door handles and alloy wheels. Chrome strip running along the window line is retained from the regular Hexa:


Even the 4x4 badge on the front panel is blacked out:


"Safari Edition" badge on the roof rails:


No chrome inserts on either the wheel arches or body cladding:


On the inside, the Safari Edition gets a black and white dual-tone theme instead of the all black theme of the regular Hexa. The lower part of the dashboard and most of the doorpads are white:


Seats are draped in white leather. The outer walls of the center console are finished in white as well:

Other exhibits included the other cars from the Tata stable. These included the facelifted versions of the Nexon, Tiago and Tigor.

The Nexon gets new twin-pod headlamps with LED daytime running lights, a new grille, redesigned bumper with silver inserts and fog lamps:


The Nexon comes with BS6 compliant petrol and diesel engines including a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol unit produces 118 BHP and 170 Nm, and a 1.5-litre diesel motor that makes 108 BHP and 260 Nm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and 6-speed AMT:




The Nexon gets a new flat-bottom steering wheel and a digital instrument cluster. It gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment head-unit, automatic projector headlamps, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, keyless entry, rain sensing wipers, cruise control and electric sunroof among other features:


The Tiago gets a new front grille finished in gloss black and a chrome strip running along the lower border, redesigned headlamp clusters and a new front bumper with a reworked air dam and circular fog lamps. Other changes include black ORVMS, blackened B-pillars and dual-tone alloy wheels.:


The Tiago is powered by a BS6-compliant 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that produces 85 BHP and 113 Nm. It is paired with either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT). Tata no longer offers the 1.05-litre diesel engine:


On the inside, the Tiago comes with a new steering wheel, a touchscreen infotainment head-unit that is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Other features include automatic climate control, power folding ORVMs, digital instrument cluster and drive modes:


The refreshed Tigor comes with a new grille finished in gloss black. It has Y-shaped chrome inserts and a chrome strip. The car has redesigned projector headlamps and a new front bumper with a reworked air dam that has chrome inserts. The bumper houses a pair of circular fog lamps and J-shaped LED daytime running lights:




Like the Tiago, the Tigor gets a new steering wheel:


Touchscreen infotainment head-unit supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Other features include engine start/stop button, automatic climate control, power folding ORVMs, digital instrument cluster and drive mode selector:


The Tigor is powered by a BS6-compliant 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that produces 85 BHP and 113 Nm. It is paired with either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT). The 1.05-litre diesel engine has been discontinued:

Thread moved from the Assembly Line to the Indian Car Scene!

Undoubtedly, the best stall at the expo this time around. No nonsense, no messing around with other-worldly concepts - just pure design style of both the existing range and upcoming products.

Sierra is the obvious star of the show! Although still a concept - I'm hopeful of it making to production based on the excellent response. Also, it doesn't look to be designed just to be a style showcase (like the Maruti Futuro E or the Mahindra Funster for example). The concept feels just as realistic as the H5X first appeared in the last expo - hopefully, the production version will be the star of the 2022 event.

My only complaint is with the Gravitas losing out in front of the Harrier BS6. The tides have suddenly turned with the Harrier going up the desirability scales and the Gravitas looking like a bit of an afterthought. (The kink in the styling, the boring colours, the lack of sunroof etc). That said - Harrier has improved and how! A very desirable package now - with the improved engine, TC automatic gearbox and the panoramic sunroof.

Looking forward to the Altroz EV as well. Really liked the Altroz diesel and hopefully, the specifications remain similar to the Nexon EV, which should perform even better in the lightweight Altroz.

Overall, the best 'product' range for the next two years IMHO - even the old-timers like Nexon and Tiago are looking fresh post the refresh. Now hopefully that transforms into sales and changed customer perceptions very soon.

My personal opinion.. The Sierra concept looks hideous, the old one was so much more desirable. This looks like various parts just stuck together to create a concept. The interiors too, are way too radical. Does the leg room justify the lounge seats?
Exteriors- C'mon Tata.. Surely we can expect more from you after the lovely looking Harrier.
