The silhouette shows more prominence of the Seltos design to me. KIA might position it as a C-SUV and not an MPV.

It is actually an existing trademark of Kia. It was sold as a mini-carnival, so I guess they revived it.

Kia has stated that the name Carens is based on the concept of Car+Renaissance and is touted as a Recreational vehicle - Source

Teaser video gives the glimpse of the car's exterior profile, design of the LED daytime running lights, and tail-lamps with a triangular light guide pattern and a lightbar running the width of the tailgate.

The Carens was an MPV sold in UK and some other countries before it was silently phased out. I had driven one back in 2017 in Scotland.
Not sure why Kia is talking so much about the name now.

I am really excited for this vehicle. Glad that Kia is targeting segments where we have low/no competition. Should slot in beautifully between the Ertiga and Innova. Reliable engines (specially diesel) + transmission combinations + features + design, etc.

Coming to the name, I am quite okay with the CARENS nameplate being revived for this vehicle. It does seem like Kia wants to maintain sort of a consistency with their naming scheme. "CAR" for MPVs CARnival & CARens, whereas "S" for SUVs i.e. Seltos & Sonet.
Also, reviving an old name may help connect the vehicle with the masses in the international markets as well.

My only gripe is the safety factor now. I just really hope this one scores at least 4 starts in GNCAP. Kia has everything going on for them except safety. I just really wish they focus more on this side as well.

I do own a Seltos and am really happy with it. C'mon Kia, you have a potential amazing product and there will be many folks opting/upgrading (Ertiga/old Innova) to this one due to the lack of alternatives. Just please address the safety concerns and you have your third blockbuster here.

I do also want to add another point. I'm really happy that Kia didn't follow the Hyundai approach and extended the Seltos to become a seven seater, rather they transformed the vehicle entirely. Every product in their line-up looks different inside out (except steering/gear lever, tiger nose grill) and that's really an appreciation for them in terms of approaching a design language. Gives each product their own unique identity and emotional attachment for owners.

Frankly, I find the name to be OK. Any point that I am missing with this name ?

They are building brand (and hype) for Indian customers. The average joe, not the enthusiasts who follow automobiles as hobby, those who are still not aware of places like Team-BHP.

Yeah, I too Googled it. Found the background. However, the question remains. Will the usual Indian customer be able to find the link between 'Caren' and 'Karen' ? Further, being able to connect it to the 'insult' is far fetched.

Based on the renders, it's probably a lot more of the SUV stance than MUV. I hope Kia doesnt simply give us an alternative similar to Alcazar that doesn't meet the weight of all the expectations.
