Re: 5-Seat Volkswagen Tiguan to be re-launched in India

Why don't we just kick them out. Seriously, why do we give so much importance to them when they don't. Just because of the perceived build quality, German engineering etc etc, it doesn't mean they'll take the market for a ride. And same applies to other car manufacturers who do not take the Indian market seriously.

Re: 5-Seat Volkswagen Tiguan to be re-launched in India

I would like to ask VW why the 5-seat Tiguan was discontinued in the first place. To an outsider, VW looks like a confused chicken that is running around in circles. Such stupid decisions create a lot of confusion in the customer's mind. One month, the 5-seater disappears, then the 7-seater arrives, and now the 5-seater again. The mass market doesn't follow auto news like we enthusiasts do. Heck, a majority of them don't even know something called the Tiguan is on sale!

Re: 5-Seat Volkswagen Tiguan to be re-launched in India

They already have killed the model by discontinuing the 5-seater and then launching the 7-seater with the thirsty 2L petrol (only). Now they will have to place this one at a price point between T-Roc and the Allspace. The only silver-lining I can see is, this can make the T-Roc look more VFM!

Re: 5-Seat Volkswagen Tiguan to be re-launched in India

Ever since the Auto Expo earlier this year, I've been struggling to remember all these names from the VW-Skoda stable - T-Roc, Tiagun, Tiguan Allspace, Karoq, Kamiq, Kodiaq and Vision.

A lot of these models look quite similar and difficult to tell apart. I'll probably use a simplistic naming convention like Tony, Sunny, Bunny, Mani, Johnny, Rani and Honey instead of twisting my tongue saying Kamiq and Karoq.

Re: 5-Seat Volkswagen Tiguan to be re-launched in India

I think the VW group has done a decent job at identifying gaps and bringing in new products. They could have easily given up and quit the market like so many others (GM, Fiat etc) have and not put the effort to revive an ageing lineup (some would argue they still haven't). It remains to be seen what India 2.0 does.

From how I see it, they discontinued the 5-seater Tiguan because of BS6/ the shift away from diesel and to avoid a price cut after the Allspace launched, since it would have been under-equipped in all aspects. Plus they needed to save money somewhere after absorbing the CBU costs for the new SUVs.

If they price the 5-seater Tiguan around 26-27L ex-showroom it'll be more VFM and they will have covered almost every price band with multiple offerings.
<10L Polo
<20L Taigun and Skoda Vision-IN/ Vento and Rapid
<30L T-Roc and Karoq/ 2021 Octavia
<40L Tiguan (5-seater) and Superb/ Passat (if relaunched)
<50L Tiguan Allspace and Kodiaq

In my opinion for as flawed as their strategy has been, I appreciate that we still have a global brand with quality products on our shores and aren't just all given standard issue Maruti Suzukis and Mahindras when we get a license.

Re: 5-Seat Volkswagen Tiguan to be re-launched in India

I am thrilled and vindicated. I had expressed my disappointment in Tiguan being discontinued in Oct-Nov and lack of a petrol engine.

I will gladly buy the 1.5 TSI, Petrol 2-WD within a reasonable price point.

Are you referring to the Dieselgate scandal? Volkswagen provides its Euro-VI diesel engines with selective catalytic reduction (trademarked AdBlue water and urea mixture as the diesel exhaust fluid) and particulate filter-based after-treatment solutions, so it shouldn't have as much trouble in tweaking the engines for our market regulations. However, only the employees know what is going on with respect to the brand's internal affairs.

There is the fear factor of the petrol TSI engine(s) guzzling fuel when being driven even moderately hard, despite manufacturers trying to bring out the best possible fuel consumption (fuel is expensive, even in Western Europe, according to their salary structure and overall taxes). Also, what is preventing Volkswagen from providing the 5 seater Tiguan even with the 2 litre TSI engine?

Re: 5-Seat Volkswagen Tiguan to be re-launched in India

Which DSG is this? If it's the same dry clutch unit that does duty in everything from the Polo GT TSI to the T-Roc, customers might be a bit peeved. The 1.5 TSI is also going to be available from the Taigun onwards so the same powertrain across three segments (Taigun, T-Roc, Tiguan)?

This is the Allspace itself I guess, the rear quarter window is larger than the regular 5 seater tiguan’s.
