Nissan: 8 new models for Africa, Middle East, India region

Nissan has announced a 4-year plan for Africa, Middle East and India region. It is part of the brand's Global Transformation plan that was announced last month.

As part of this plan, Nissan will work towards improving regional cost and efficiency by optimizing the regional product portfolio by 20%, increase cost competitiveness of local plants and enhance export opportunities from units in this region.

Nissan plans to introduce 8 new models in this region. The company will focus on its core models and segments and prioritize SUVs and affordable B-segment sedans. India will get a B-SUV, while the Navara will be launched in the South African market.

Nissan will focus on the Middle East, South Africa and Egypt while Renault will lead the Turkey and North Africa regions. In India, both the sister brands will have joint status.

Nissan also plans to introduce e-POWER, EV and connected technologies in this region in a phased manner. It will also focus on increasing digitalization.

Presence of Nissan is slowly decreasing in the Middle East as well I would say. I don't notice any newer Nissan cars on roads these days. Even the sales of new PATROL has gone down drastically. Nissan Sunny is not bringing in any more numbers these days, same is the case with Nissan Sentra as well. Moreover they did not introduce newer models of both these cars here. Nissan Kicks was a huge flop in ME as well. Its just the Altima & Maxima that brings some numbers here for them, add to this their expensive service bills!

Isnt this news contradictory to what was said in the other thread?
IIRC it was decided that Renault would target Europe, Nissan North America and Mitsubishi would be active in Asia.

I would say that’s good news. Nissan makes pretty decent vehicles, their After Sales is what keeps the buyers away in our country.

It’s Nissan’s fault for neglecting India imo since Skoda sells a good chunk of vehicles in India even after the same reputation regarding after sales and service.

That's more about the technology leadership, it doesn't mean either of the 3 companies will exit other markets.

There is a big problem with Nissan. Leadership and clarity at the global level.

1 - They have never been sure of Indian market. Bought products like sunny and Micra and never updated the.
2 - The two segments which are cash cows for most of the companies is premium hatch and sub 4m SUV. They never bought in the new Micra. Also, the Maginte launches next year, when most companies have taken advantage of the segment, too late.
3 - Renault has been successful by bringing in new products. Nissan is still playing with old gen cars. Only now did they launch Kicks. Again too late. Plus Renault has always been ahead of Nissan. Again Magnite is delayed so that Renault takes full advantage of sub 4m SUV HBC.
4 - Nissan has been slow to bring in products. Tata motors did this by using products for 10 years without a change, they were hit badly, but they learnt and look at their product update duration now. Nissan needs to learn.
5 - After sales network - They Never worked on it.

I have a soft corner of sorts for Nissan. Loved the Micra and now liked the new kicks. If they can work on the after sales experience, it will make a huge difference.

When their competition offers competitive auto transmissions, they are still trying to shoe-horn a CVT / AMT into their vehicles. Premium means something else in India now. Automatic transmissions, sunroofs, glitzy ICE, auto-parking features, front ventilation.. these are the new premium features. Not luxury colors, brand names and heritage. That's why a MG is able to make inroads where a Nissan can't. While Nissan can harp all they want about their super duper brand heritage, it just refuses to sing the new tune.

What competitive, updated product has Nissan launched in India?

MG offered a competent engine, a good gearbox + all the bells and whistles and priced it well.

Nissan Kicks arguably is the only half competent product launched by Nissan India in 4-5 years, and even that was horribly overpriced on launch.

Nissan only harps about heritage and never translate that onto onground results.

Look at their current and past product line up,

Micra, competent but never upgraded for a decade except for the odd facelift

Sunny- it was outdated even when it was launched and for a decade they kept the same base with again only the odd facelift. This when the car was launched you had the Fluidic verna and the new (then) gen Honda City. This car looked old in 2011 and looked horrible in 2020 when it was discontinued.

Terrano? Xtrail? Again all older gens, offered nothing compelling.

Then you have the horrible strategy mismatch by launching a seperate sub brand called Datsun.

The Indian market is not stupid that they will think "Nissan, wow heritage" and "MG, gee whiz bad car" and put down money on a Nissan.
