Re: India to have over 2 crore end-of-life vehicles by 2025: CSE Report

On a related note: Where will the end of life vehicles go? They usually end up in the poorer countries of Africa, Central & South America. India shouldn't be blindly copying the actions of the developed countries.
Quote:
“Over the years, developed countries have increasingly exported their used vehicles to developing countries; because this largely happens unregulated, this has become the export of polluting vehicles.”
.....
“Developed countries must stop exporting vehicles that fail environment and safety inspections and are no longer considered roadworthy in their own countries, while importing countries should introduce stronger quality standards”, she charged.

Re: India to have over 2 crore end-of-life vehicles by 2025: CSE Report

Our problem is that we believe in reincarnation. Very few people actually give their cars for scrap unless and accident or act of god renders it useless. We just leave it on the road and pray it somehow starts moving.

A lot of these cars would be driven off the road through strict fitness tests and regular taxation regime. The lifetime tax means there is no hold on reviewing car fitness, hence people think the car has a right to remain on the road even if not fit.

Unless people are made to see that the economic life of a vehicle is over factually, this will go on

This brings another question to my mind.
Has anyone here failed a PUC test? What happens when you fail a PUC test?

That PUC test should determine whether a vehicle is going to have a negative impact on the environment. Not the age of the vehicle.
