This is the first in segment, a naming ceremony of an ''yet to be launched'' carrl: A very innovative way to build hype:D
Lets hope they actually bring some first in segment stuff in the Kushaq!

Kushaq - King in Sanskrit.

An Indian name, very nice, a good start.

Hmm...not a very catchy name, but i think that people will get used to if the product is a HIT, else it will be forgotten in no time.

Skoda should bring the SUV ASAP as the market is hot and lot of launches this year and there will be many options for probable customers to choose from.

Even though the name isn't really catchy, it does sound classy and has meaning behind it, which I believe is more important :thumbs up

Looks like Skoda has hired Ekta Kapoor for naming their cars . All recent one's starting with K . Kosmiq would have sounded better.

Interesting name, reminds us Bengaluru folks of kushka, a Biriyani rice served without meat. Kushak is a variant of krushik - farmer. Certainly a good move, sticking to an Indian name. Meanwhile an Instagram user certainly did not like it.

Kushaq...an unusual choice to name an SUV. But think of it, Creta was an unusual name too but seems to have grown on people as it turned out to be a best seller. Let’s hope this is the turning point for Skoda’s fortunes in India. There’s quite a bit of interest in the product already, all they need to now do is deliver, easier said than done!

Seems Skoda India has put lot of thoughts behind this name so that we can connect more with the car.

This will be a very capable and serious competition to Creta/Seltos petrol variants with great build quality and high local content(leading to better/non-premium pricing).
It will mostly come with a base 1 litre TSI 110 BHP engine. The 1.5 litre TSI engine with 148 bhp and 250 Nm torque will be better than Creta/Seltos turbo petrol.

The VW Taigun will also be as good. It will be interesting to see Kushaq/Taigun vs Creta/Seltos in 2021.clap:

It's a good name but since when has that been the deciding factor. Waiting for the official price unveil and safety rating if they manage to crack 4 Stars, that would set the cat among the pigeons.

Skoda could price the new Kushaq SUV in the price range of Rs.10-16 lakhs so as to compete efficiently with the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta.

I find the name very weird. May be the guys speaks Hindi or Sanskrit find it normal, but for other language speaking people it’s weird.

Yeah, I drive a car called Kushaq :disappointed
The same goes for Gravitas, sounds Mexican. Thankfully, that was changed.

The press release is also out. Explains the meaning as all of you have stated above. Skoda says model offensive for the Indian market with 4 mid level vehicles planned. Looks to be a good time for Skoda if they get the price points right. At the end of the day, we still believe value for money and would like to get more bang for the buck

March 2021 will be when Kushaq gets launched as per press release and then its all about production line speed to get the car to the public. I suspect by June we will have the first vehicles sold and on road

Attached is the press release

New 2022 Skoda Kushaq SUV Will Target ‘Sophisticated Indian Customers’ :

What does Skoda mean by 'Sophisticated' .. Will the car be Premium, Performance, Pricey..?

Quote:

Skoda has refrained from saying anything else, but the Vision In Concept was powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine rated at 148 HP (150 PS / 110 kW) and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) of torque. The mill drove the front wheels through a seven-speed DSG transmission, allowing it to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 8.7 seconds and reach a 121 mph (195 km/h) top speed, according to Skoda.

LOL, someone who named their cars LAURA finally realized importance of names in local language :D Hope the car meets with the hyped expectations.

Although its a great move to use Hindi/Sanskrit word, but the word itself sounds like paushaak (dress) to me - I didn't like it !

Also K prefix has a negative vibe in Hindi like kapoot, kalank, kalyug etc.
