It’s no secret that Ford is working on a new SUV that will share its underpinnings with the next-generation Mahindra XUV500. The project is codenamed W605 and we now know that the design of the car is almost complete. Further development on the SUV will start from early 2021.

Thanks to BHPian //M for the pic

The W605 will be based on the same platform as the XUV500, but it will have a different design. Reports suggest that it could have a shorter wheelbase and length. It will be more enthusiast-focused with better dynamics compared to the XUV500.

The W605 is likely to be powered by a 2.0-litre mStallion T-GDi turbocharged, four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 187 BHP @ 5,000 rpm and 380 Nm at 1,750-4,000 rpm. It is also expected to get a 2.0-litre diesel engine option.

Thanks to Adam for sending this information in. Heartfelt gratitude for sharing it with other enthusiasts via this Team-BHP page!

Any idea about the launch timeline of the Ford W605? Will it be a bit later in 2021 after the XUV500 or in 2022. The W605 may be a worthy replacement/upgrade for all EcoSport owners within the Ford family. I am eagerly waiting for this one now.

This seems to be an interesting development. This will be something on my watchlist for sure.. Having driven and in love with Ecosport Diesel since day 1 of its launch (26th June 2013), will wait and watch how this event turns and will definitely push my purchase option for this one..

Exciting news for all Ford lovers including me considering Ford will launch new-gen Ecosport by mid next year.:)

I think W605 will be a 5 seater and compete with Compass, Harier etc. Will it be launched by end of 2021?

I waited since 2018 with no line of sight about the product or development. Merger also happening at a delayed pace so was not sure if to wait for one to replace my ecosport.

Last week I ended my search and uncertainty by buying a Harrier CAMO edition. Sure its no Ecosport when it comes to driving pleasure but feel built to last.

clap:

Shorter wheelbase and length with the 2.0l engine will be AWESOME!!!

Maybe Ford has wisely decided it doesn't need those 3rd rows and designed likewise.

Hope the tophat and interiors all look like a pucca Ford vehicle, the dynamics too;)

Do load it with features, but don't let the gizmo, quirky XUV500ness infect it.

Make it look little Bronco-esque clap: Would look cool with that upright style for our roads ! Bronco itself has the short wheelbase Sport variant.

The Ford Dealers have a faint idea about the model hitting the stores during the last quarter of 2021 or the first quarter of 2022. Whatever it is, this development will sooth the nerves of folks who are always on the tenterhooks regarding the impending exit of Ford from India !!

Now to the vehicle, the news that the future model will be more enthusiast friendly is encouraging news to me. I find XUV 500 horribly imbalanced for long drives and it is good that the future model will have the Ford DNA and the drivability that the company is known for.

As more details emerge, I will be keeping my eyes and ears open for further developments. Ford is coming up with many models in near future and I am looking forward. Only grouse is that they keep delaying things a bit too much for comfort, hope they don't repeat the same !!

Not sure where did you see the model. The above pic in the post is of Ecosport itself, in case you referred to it.

May be he is referring to the Brazilian offering

This is definitely good news for us enthusiasts, our aging old ecosport is tough to move on from and we are hoping that this would be the perfect upgrade, All I need is the slick sync system, the driving dynamics and if we are lucky an AWD system would put the cherry on the cake. If Ford plays its cards right then we certainly have a winner here. We also have the new Endeavour overdue around the same time and it would be tough to choose between the two.

I initially thought that we would eventually get the Puma to compete with the Creta/Seltos but an XUV sized car would be nicer for sure.

Finally, a nice product (on paper at least) to bridge the huge gap between the Ecosport and the Endeavour.

This could be a nice garage mate to my Figo AT :D

Is this the one?

Bingo! I think this might well be the one! clap:

They can get rid of the third row on the next generation XUV500, shorten the wheelbase a bit, and position it against the MG Hector and Tata Harrier.
