Re: Pre-worshipped car of the week : Buying a Used Mercedes C-Class (W205)

Voted no, my parents own this car for the past four years in the 220d guise. Though it looks terrific, i somehow feel this car is not sporty enough to drive like the f30. The engine feels strained when you rev it. The under thigh support of the rear bench is not great and its quite expensive to maintain.

YES YES YES!

I will go for this simply for it's stunning looks & interiors, this looks fresh even in 2020 and will look fresh even after 10 good years, that is the amount of elegance W205 carries.

And the 3 pointed star, oh my god no badge can match the value of that. Yes you read it right, when it comes to the badge value the 3 pointed stars is a notch above the BMW.
#No offense.

Re: Pre-worshipped car of the week : Buying a Used Mercedes C-Class (W205)

The W205 is a relatively new car and knowing that it has good resale value, it's not going to be so cheap buying it used as well. In fact it is very risky buying it used because once out of warranty ( which is when most owners will cleverly sell it anyways ) the financial risk is completely on you if something goes wrong.I chose No for this very reason.

The only cars worth from Mercedes is the W221 since they are already very cheap to buy and they are mostly reliable and very luxurious and comfortable. Even if something does fail , the price of maintenance is worth it since you purchased it very cheap in the first place.

Re: Pre-worshipped car of the week : Buying a Used Mercedes C-Class (W205)

Need some help deciding to make the purchase.
Is it a good idea to buy a more driven 5-6 years old car with 80k-100k on the odo?
If we have the service records?
What are the factors to look into when thinking of such a car.

I've been told that there are some authorised companies, that provide warranty and service packages on such old premium cars too.

Anybody has experience with such warranty packages, provided outside of Official Mercedes service center?

Re: Pre-worshipped car of the week : Buying a Used Mercedes C-Class (W205)

Voted a big yes and bought one as well, W204 though
Although the voting is for W205, i personally love W204 for its timeless uniqueness, you will not see too many on road even today.

Following are my reasons:
1) Mine is a grand edition launched in 2014 comes with all bells and whistles
2) Special mention to Agility control suspension, it just glides when driven slow and tightens when driven hard
3) The superior build quality, Old is gold as they say. It is the heaviest of all its rivals at 1610 kgs but that transfers to solidity that you feel once inside.
4) Hard to find features :full size alloy sparewheel in a proper wheelwell, cant recall any luxury car maker gives it now a days. Electrically adjustable steering wheel at this price point, panaromic sunroof, bi-xenon intelligent light system, AMG bumpers, both driver and passenger side electrically adjustable seats with memory function
5) I have checked and driven lots of 2013-2014 3 series as i am a die-hard Beemer fan and owned G30 530d as well, but sadly the interior quality deteriorates faster compared to Merc. Didnt find a single 3 series which didnt make any unexpected noise or rattle.
Compared to that majority C class were running tight, not peppy but tight.
6) We are a family of 3 mostly so back seat space is not much of an issue.
7) The NVH level is amazing almost matches that of a new 5 series with acoustic glass all around. if you are listening to music, you will feel gliding.
8) 7G tronic, not the best in business but does the job.
9) There is this special feeling of proud while driving, which somehow i never got in my BMW. This will be subjective ofcourse but i am sharing what i feel.

For all those on tight budget, luxury aspiring ones, Dont ignore this W204 version of C class.

Re: Pre-worshipped car of the week : Buying a Used Mercedes C-Class (W205)

Voted Yes!

I was even considering a preowned W204 facelift C250d to replace our W176 A which has been quite reliable and incredibly fuel efficient so far. The C250d's twin-turbo diesel is extremely torquey, and while it might not be as dynamic as an F30 3-series or as comfy as the A4, the 3-pointed star screams luxury in a way none of its German rivals can, and even though it has its flaws like limited rear space or firm ride, if I had to get a German sedan from the 2012-2015 era, I'd pick the C.
I'm not a fan of the W205 though, so my vote wouldn't be a resounding yes, unless it is the mental C300d.

Re: Pre-worshipped car of the week : Buying a Used Mercedes C-Class (W205)

Hello everyone,
2 weeks into my ownership of W204 and i am feeling the itch of ECU remap. I had both my VW (Jetta and GT) remapped by petes and worked flawlessly. Petes have a remap for W204 C class also but not sure or had no reasonable reviews / experiences to go ahead with. My question is who is the best tuner for mercedes OM651 engine? Quantum tuning has one but no idea of their maps or reviews. Searched on our forums also for any reviews of tuned C-class but nothing tangible.

Some guidance from experienced members would be much appreciated.
