Re: Which will be your last ICE car, before switching to new energy vehicles?

I am 26 and on my 3rd car, which is my first 'new car'.

I think the EVs would be mainstream by the time I hit 35 years of age. And I sincerely wish to own a proper ICE E-Class before I jump to an EV.

Oh god, please help to hit that target.

Re: Which will be your last ICE car, before switching to new energy vehicles?

I am having fourth generation Honda City, but I would definitely buy a turbo petrol and a vehicle like THAR before I move to EV. But I would be definitely a late entrant in the world of EV, considering I am not very confident on Lithium Based Batteries in Indian Environment and our Charging Infrastructure.

True that. If you're based in Calif., choices are aplenty but if you're here in India, then I would say close your eyes and pick up a used Accord V6. Preferably 2003-07 3.0 L, assuming you meant a used car. The later year Accords after '08 came with Cylinder Management Sys., adding to complexity. If it is in India and if it is used, buy one before they start vanishing from used car market.

Re: Which will be your last ICE car, before switching to new energy vehicles?

I think its a bit premature to decide on the last ICE cars. Its going to be around for the next 20-25 years in India. I think we should think of the engines that we are going to miss, especially Diesels. Mine would be the 2 litre TDI, 1.6 TDI, 1.3 MJD, Ford 1.5l..

I currently drive a 530d and i think this will be my last ICE car. My next car would be an EV something on the lines of Volvo XC40 EV / Tesla Model 3.

Re: Which will be your last ICE car, before switching to new energy vehicles?

I have a Tesla model 3 now. But I still, think it is too early to make a decision on my last ICE car. I would prefer a lightweight RWD high/free revving naturally aspirated petrol car as my last ICE one.

Still need to experience one BIG AWD SUV: Endeavour/XUV 500/Fortuner. Most likely will get something by 2022 end, keep it for 10+ years and then hop onto the EV. The EV technology and infra would have definitely evolved to a next gen level.

Somehow I'm pulled towards Mercedes Benz' A-Class Limousine & BMW 3L these days. Not sure if I may put my money on these by the time EVs take over.

If I can get a brand-new car in the picture below, then that will be it until the end. Unfortunately, it can happen only in my dreams.

Re: Which will be your last ICE car, before switching to new energy vehicles?

If finance and parking space were non issues, I should have been looking for a fast torquey turbo diesel. EVs are not affordable today but they may become affordable in the next couple of years. If the government's fuel pricing policy doesn't change, people can swap fuel costs to EV EMIs in a few years.

Last ICE before what? My last ICE car will be my last car. Just because there are a few low range EVs launched doesn’t mean everyone will and should flock to these “cars”

Because of the enormous costs + infrastructure + attitude changes + habit changes required for a mass switchover to EVs, I feel ICE cars are going to happily coexist with EVs in the foreseeable future.
I agree with the above view of GTO, but not with the next point of 15 to 20 years for becoming the majority.. I have interacted with some of the OEMs / vendors to understand ICEs would continue to be there for some more time and next 5 / 10 years targets for EVs are aspirational.

Also with huge dependency on China for Li for batteries of EVs, most of the OEMs / countries are vary of going fully electric. So conventional ICEs would either evolve to Hybrids or newer technology, better than Li-ion batteries would be focussed on..
