Mercedes-Benz is gearing up to launch the second generation GLA in India later this year. Now, new details of the India-spec car have emerged.



Mercedes will offer the GLA with petrol and diesel engine options. These include a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol producing 161 BHP / 250 Nm and a 2.0-litre diesel unit equipped with a variable geometry turbocharger, making 187 BHP. The diesel version will get an all-wheel drive option.



There will also be an AMG variant, which is expected to be assembled locally. The GLA 35 AMG will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 302 BHP. Unlike the regular petrol version, the AMG will come equipped with an all-wheel drive system.



The Mercedes-Benz GLA will compete with the likes of the BMW X1, Mini Countryman and the Volvo XC40 in the Indian market.

I don't believe it! No front and rear parking sensors in the GLA! What is Merc thinking?

Expected price of Rs.43 lacs for the 1.3 lit petrol!!! Very optimistic pricing if it is true for what is essentially an Creta sized car.

Well the size isn't everything - otherwise the Mini would be much cheaper too. What matters is quality and brand perception. Though yes, that 1.3 lit (turbo) petrol is a bummer - but also gives me hopes on good discounts on the petrol variants eventually

Still, thinking about it, the power figures of the petrol are not bad at all - it's beating the 1.5 TSI of the VW group!

This we have to wait and see. Govt. regulation is rear sensors are a must. It's not camera or sensor. Sensor is must, camera is optional.

According to multiple dealers, The GLA should be launching by this month-end and the price would be in the range of 40-45 lacs ex-showroom (1lac premium over the A Limo, per variant basis).
The dealer also pointed out that the Media Drives should start within a week or so (Not sure though due to the worsening Covid situation in the different states of India).

As per my assumption and the insights from the dealers I've contacted, I believe the pricing might be as follows:-

• GLA 200 Progressive- 41-42Lacs Ex-showroom
• GLA 220d Progressive- 42-43Lacs Ex-showroom
• GLA 220d 4MATIC AMG Line- 45Lacs Ex-showroom

The organ type accelerator pedal is a big miss, I don’t know why Mercedes does this with their entry level cars. I personally find organ type accelerators to be more comfortable than the suspended ones. I really like driving our 2010 Laura with a organ type pedal rather than our 2017 GLA 220d with much superior performance.

The rear sensors were available as an accessory for 25k for me but I thought they’d be present in 2021 gla, why Mercedes why?

2nd-gen Mercedes-Benz GLA bookings open in India

Mercedes-Benz has started accepting online bookings for the second generation GLA crossover in India.



In India, Mercedes will offer the GLA with three engine options. The entry-level unit is a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol producing 161 BHP and 250 Nm.

The second engine is a 2.0-litre diesel unit equipped with a variable geometry turbocharger. The engine makes 187 BHP. The diesel version of the car will get an all-wheel drive option.

Received a hot tip from a birdie at Mercedes that the new GLA is going to be launched on 27th April 2021, that is tomorrow.

Any other fellow BHPian having any similar info regarding this? (not sure about the authenticity of the tip though, given the fact, there is absolutely no news about this in any media).

The interiors on the new Mercs look sweet. This seems like the complete package with AWD and no skimping on the features.
The weakest link will probably be the mediocre 1.3L petrol.

As per a birdie at Mercedes, The new GLA was indeed scheduled to launch on 27th April 2021, but it has been delayed due to the current Covid crisis in India and the lockdown in various states across India.
The New launch time frame is May End (tentatively).

Also, the variants and their specifications.
(The 4MATIC 220d might be the AMG Line variant and the normal 220d and 200 might be the Progressive trim line...)
