Me thinks it's going to be a reworked Maruti Ciaz! That will be the biggest joke of them all. Toyota has done it before with the Qualis raised expectations sky high and released a 'hearse': even that went on to sell rather handsomely but that's another story!

Relaunching last generation Corolla at reduced price is a much better option. They launched the same in 2014 for 11.99L ex-showroom. It will find some takers if they launch an Auto variant around the same price range with minor exterior modification.

Here in Japan, the lower end Corolla is Corolla Axio, which is/was sold as the Yaris in India.

My guess would be that Toyota will be selling the rebadged Ciaz as Corolla Quest in India.

The Corolla Axio is the narrower version of the international Corolla, to avoid the big car tax of Japan. It is on the same platform as the Yaris, but a different car.

Doesn’t matter what an Indian VP says if the bosses in Japan see the Corolla as a ‘flagship’ car for India. They are mostly preparing to launch the next gen sedan. I hope they launch a reasonably priced (not Toyota’s reasonable price) hybrid version which is a hit in the US.


They should consider launching the ZThai spec Corolla cross too.

Googled synonyms "Quest" returned (the ones i could relate with a vehicle)
- Adventure aka Adventurous
- Chase
- Expedition
- Crusade
- Hunt

From the above, it definitely doesn't seem as these words would gel with a sedan anyhow.
So my gut feeling is that this is the name to their Creta / Seltos Competitor new SUV.

Globally, Toyota has relaunched the Corolla Cross as a SUV, likewise the "Corolla" brand will help to attract people, who otherwise know Corolla as the most reliable (aka Toyota = Reliability & Longevity )brand

Could it be the old Altis with the Yaris 1.5 BS6 engine?
It won't be very bad choice for chauffeured guys.
It could be priced well (by Toyota standards) too.
