Skoda aims to sell over 60,000 units in 2022

Earlier this week, Skoda launched the Kushaq in India. Despite the premium pricing, the company has high hopes for its first 'Made-for-India' crossover offering.

Zac Hollis, Brand Director, Sales and Marketing, Skoda Auto India, has stated in an interview that the company aims to sell 30,000 units this year. That's almost three times the number of cars Skoda sold last year.

The company also has an ambitious target of doubling its sales in 2022. According to Hollis, Skoda aims to more than double its sales from 30,000 units in FY2021 to over 60,000 units in FY2022.

New product launches would be the key to increasing its market share. Skoda has already launched two new models this year - the Kushaq and the new Octavia. The carmaker is also working on a new mid-size sedan that is expected to be positioned above the Rapid. It will also be based on the MQB A0 IN platform and unveiled by the end of this year.

Re: Skoda aims to sell over 60,000 units in 2022

It is possible and easy

4000-4500 units per month sales for Kushaq+Slavia
500-1000 units per month for 20L+ price products like Octavia, Karoq, Superb, and Kodiaq.

With Kushaq pricing they lost their chance to sell 120000 units per year.

With the recent pricing strategy of new launches, I doubt they would achieve that number.
And if the new crop shows any signs of reliability issues, then the numbers would go south.

Re: Skoda aims to sell over 60,000 units in 2022

This is more like buying revenue by acquiring companies (in the current startup/tech “growth” world) instead of refining organic strategy (pricing, variants etc) within.

New models will give extra volume. But that’s just settling for a survival growth strategy IMO. Time will tell. Survival strategy too has a risk of downfall.

Re: Skoda aims to sell over 60,000 units in 2022

So they'll sell about 40k Kushaqs at an average of 3000+ odd units a month at best. The Rapid will fetch about 8k units. Where will the other 12k units come from? The Octavia will be lucky to find triple digit sales month on month.

Seeing the Kushaqs pricing I don't see the midsize Sedan that's due for launch will give them 1000units a month if its starting above the current Rapid and Honda City pricing.

Unless this is an estimated ballpark figure.

Re: Skoda aims to sell over 60,000 units in 2022

I think it would be difficult for Skoda to get 5000 units/month sales due to below reasons:
- With Skoda's premium pricing strategy, Slavia will have a hard time competing with Honda City in an already contracting segment so can't expect it to get more than 1000 units/month
- As per latest tweets from Zac, Rapid which gets them the sales may be retiring by next year
- 1000 units sales by Octavia, Superb, Kodiaq (coming by year end) combined seems ambitious
- 3000-3500 is a tall task just for Kushaq, unless they add some missing features to top variants & come up with a Rider Variant

I like Skoda as a brand & would be really happy if proved wrong.

Aiming is ok as long as you pull the trigger correctly and most importantly you've loaded your arms with the right ammunition. Right now, with Kushaq pricing it may well end up as a damp squib. I'll be really happy if I'm proved wrong.

I agree.

But, solely from a profitability point of view, selling 60000 units at fat margins could be better than 120000 units a year with slim margins.

Secondly, Skoda/VAG simply do not have the reach/network for 10000units/month.

Re: Skoda aims to sell over 60,000 units in 2022

Didn't Skoda announce a target of selling 50k units of Kushaq in 2021 (in the next six months)?

8000 units a month for this year!
And then, they target 60k overall sales in the full calendar year? What am I missing...

Re: Skoda aims to sell over 60,000 units in 2022

I am positive they will sell minimum 4K Kushaq each month - even higher is possible & it will depend on dealers' attitude. Mass market attitude is new to most of them.

Its a very very decent product, a proper Skoda. How much of a deterrent is the 6 air bags missing from top end AT really? If they thought the top end will sell 500 units per month, the guys who will cancel might be 200 max out of these. The lower variants are well planned & will drive lot of sales.

Looks like Hindustan Times has corrected the article few hours after I shared the news here on the forum. (Updated: 29 Jun 2021, 06:14 PM IST)

The article now shows totally different figures, amounting to 3500 units per month for the Kushaq in 2021.

Skoda is hopeful to sell at least 30,000 cars in 2021 and among them, 21,000 would be the Kushaq

Not sure if they will achieve these numbers, but if they do, they will certainly be one of the most profitable automakers here. IMHO, that is a gamble worth taking.

Re: Skoda aims to sell over 60,000 units in 2022

If Skoda starts giving heavy discounts on all models, this is quite possible. All their models are having some or more premium, with current prices it's simply not possible. With Kushaq they had great opportunity but missed by some distance.

Re: Skoda aims to sell over 60,000 units in 2022

The key factor in achieving this target might very well be the introduction of a sub-10 lakh Rider version of the Kushaq, and a sub-12 lakh AT version of the Kushaq.

In simple terms, I think a lot depends on how good the response to their new CSUV (Kushaq) is.

If all goes well, wouldn't be surprised to see a Monte Carlo edition in the near future.
